Happy Buy Nothing Day!

01/18/2022

Hi all, unfortunately, there will be NO Really Really Free Market this month!

Due to some changes in the personnel of Judson, there were some difficulties in getting the space we use for our Really Really Free Market for this month. We briefly considered trying to search elsewhere for a venue, but given the rise in the numbers of Covid and the short time we'd have to find a place, we decided to just wait for the next time.

So there will NOT be a Really Really Free Market this month.

It is very likely that we will be able to continue with Judson in April.

If you are looking for free give-away events in the meantime, GrowNYC has a few Stop’N’Swaps coming up:

We are having the next RRFM on October 24th. From 2 to 6 pm at the Assembly Hall at Judson Memorial Church, 239 Thompson Street, New York, NY 10012

The Really Really Free Market is a bazaar & celebration, where we discard capitalist notions of interaction and have fun trying new models of exchange. Expect and share packaged take-out food, skills, clothing, books and fun!
Textile recycling drop-off will be available, but e-waste will not, so please bring working electronics only.

PLEASE NOTE, as per our venue, PROOF OF FULL VACCINATION & ID of participants will be required. We also require that participants WEAR MASKS covering their nose and mouth the entire time they are inside at the event. Thank-you for your understanding and co-operation.

Because we want face coverings to remain in place, we will not be serving food on-site.

Where: Assembly Hall at Judson Memorial Church (239 Thompson Street, New York, NY 10012).

Join Freegan dot info for our film night on Thursday Sept 30th

Details

Join us for our return to in-person film nights! We’ll be returning to Judson Memorial Church to screen Brave Blue World, and a series of short films about water issues. If you’re not in New York, or prefer not to attend in-person events at this time, we’ll also be screening the film at the same time on Zoom. We’ll host a discussion after, though that might just be in-person - it depends how the technology is working.

About the film:
Brave Blue World: Racing to Solve Our Water Crisis
From reuse to energy generation, new innovations across five continents are explored in this documentary about building a future for sustainable water.

When & Where: The film will be shown on Thursday September 30th. We will host the film in the Assembly Hall at Judson Memorial Church - 239 Thompson Street just below Washington Square Park. Doors open at 7pm, film starts at 7:30pm.

To join us online, find us on Zoom at 7:20pm.
https://nyu.zoom.us/j/7118950948

IMPORTANT NOTE: Our hosts at Judson Memorial Church now require proof of vaccination to enter the space and we ask that attendees wear face coverings at all times as well. Freegan.info will be respecting this requirement and checking vaccination proof at the door. If you are unable or unwilling to show proof of vaccination or wear a face covering, please consider joining us instead on Zoom.

In addition, we will not serve food or drink at this event.

07/24/2021

Tomorrow July 25th will be the next Really Really Free Market. We will be back indoors at 239 Thompson in the basement. We will be following Covid-19 protocol so everyone must wear a mask for the whole time they are indoors. We will start at 2 pm and end by 6 pm. Please bring small usable items to share by 4:30 so they have a chance to find a new home. We will not be serving food at this RRFM and will not have places for people to sit either. Depending on the crowd size we may limit the amount of time each person can stay in the space. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow in a safe and healthy way.

05/02/2021

Quick reminder. The weather looks good today, so the RRFM will be happening starting at 1 in Washington Square Park. See post below for further information.

Because in-person freegan meetings and events have been put on hold. We are moving to doing meetings and events on Zoom. We will do a DIY event on April 22nd. See below for more details.

Hello Fellow Freegans:
Participate in our freegan DIY Salon on Zoom!
Due to the quarantine, we have no in-person events in April. Instead of our scheduled feast, we will have a Do It Yourself event in which we will share skills and have brief performances on Zoom on April 22 (Earth Day) from 6:30 until 8:30 pm. You are invited to attend as a viewer to learn and be in the audience. If you would like to share a skill or a craft or a song or a poem or something you think others would enjoy, please comment below. We would like to have a list of what will be happening in advance so that people can know what to expect. If you want to show others how to make a mask or a totebag or how to cook or prepare some kind of food or snack or how to draw or play some game or how to build or create something, as long as you can explain it and show a sample and as long as you can advise on how to do this with items that you may already have at home, you are welcome. If you have a singalong, or a song to sing, or a poem or an exercise to teach ... whatever you may want to share, as long as it is "family friendly" we invite you to participate. Please mention what materials may be relevant to your activity, so that people can come to their screens with those items ready (cloth, scissors, paper, tape, etc.) Also please keep your activity to 10 minutes or less. Thank you.

Have a stash of (gently-used) re-usable bags you want to share? This seems like a good place! Get people to go re-usable without buying a bunch of new bags!

The New York State and New York City plastic bag laws go into effect Sunday, March 1st. To assist in the transition to reusable bags, SurfriderNYC will be sponsoring a Reusable Bag Giveaway to community residents in Rockaway Beach.

Do you have a CLEAN or GENTLY-USED reusable bag or tote that you don't use and would like to donate to the Chapter's Reusable Bag Giveaway this weekend?

Patagonia Bowery has offered to serve as a drop-off/collection point Thursday and Friday Feb. 27th/28th. Simply go to the store and leave your clean or gently-used reusable bag or tote in the designated box. Thanks in advance for supporting this effort! It takes a community to keep our beach clean!

Drop-off Location:
Patagonia Bowery
313 Bowery, NY, NY 10003
Drop-off Dates:
Feb 27th and Feb 28th during store hours (11am-7pm)

Join Freegan.info this Saturday at Judson Assembly Hall for a Make and Create afternoon and take home a reusable shopping bag created by you.

Possible crafts include recycled t-shirt bags, other cloth bags, fused plastic bags, umbrella bags, juice pouch bags, and whatever you can come up with. We will provide materials and will share skills, but if you have your own t-shirt, plastic bags, juice pouches, or other materials to bring, please do!

We will get started around noon and create together for a few hours. 239 Thompson Ave. See you there.
