Join us this Thursday, April 4th, for the opening of @jl_tejedarts Jose-Luis Tejeda’s exhibit “The Color of an Independence” at our #Gallery505 at 7pm — live music from @thescottbravo and refreshments Born in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, Jose immigrated to the United States in the early 80’s. He refined his innate art skills by first pursuing an associate degree from New York City College of Technology and then a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in art and education at City College of New York. The title of this current show is “The Color of an Independence”. Patriotism is evident in the symbolic hue of any flag, and this presentation highlights the delight, joy, and passion that a person may experience upon realizing the colors of their national flags. Using oil on canvas as a medium, Jose strongly believes that this first cubistic design at Gallery 505 will serve as the ideal conduit for the spirit of patriotism. This feeling arises as soon as each person is able to identify the original color emblem of their own nation. This specific cubism serves as an experimental platform for a potential Project Art Deco exhibition. Due to his intense love for his craft, Jose is taking this opportunity to express himself through realism, expressionism, impressionism, cubism, abstract, and other painting styles. #artopening #fineart #painting #artexhibition #bronxartist #supportinglocalartists #yourflag #independence

The process, which involves layering oil paints and hot wax, usually takes over. Encaustic paintings have a translucency to them. Sometimes images seem to rise and fall as I create each piece.” Janice #bronxartist #supportinglocalartists #fineart #artexhibition #artopening

Valerie Deas Art leading a quilting workshop today at KRVC — discussing the Gee’s Bend exhibit at the Whitney which was influential to her work — The quilts of Gee's Bend are quilts created by a group of women and their ancestors who live or have lived in the isolated African-American hamlet of Gee's Bend, Alabama along the Alabama River. The quilts of Gee's Bend are among the most important African-American visual and cultural contributions to the history of art within the United States. Arlonzia Pettway, Annie Mae Young and Mary Lee Bendolph are among some of the most notable quilters from Gee's Bend. So great to open our space again to the community! #supportinglocalartists #krvc #communitybuilding #bronxartist #culture #quilting #arthistory
