A Message from Terhi Edwards, Our Board President.

As Board President of KRVC and Manager of Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Riverdale, seeing our community prosper is important to me. I began working with KRVC in 2017 when Tracy Shelton offered me the opportunity to become Board President. Over the years, I have noticed the great effort that KRVC has put into improving the community of Riverdale. I wanted to help and give back to the community which has given me and my family so much. I am very proud of KRVC and how much it has helped advance Kingsbridge, Riverdale, Van Cortlandt and the surrounding communities. I look forward and anticipate even more success to come in the future.

KRVC is excited to announce our Book Club Leader, Cara Kagan!

Cara Kagan is a writer and musician who has contributed to many national magazines, including W, Self, Shape, Town & Country, Fitness, Glamour, Real Simple, InStyle, Harper’s Bazaar, and The New York Post Alexa section.

She got her start writing style and beauty in the trenches as an editor for the fashion and beauty bible "Women's Wear Daily," and then went on to become beauty and fitness director for both YM and Mode magazines.

She is most proud of creating Girl magazine, the first multi-cultural and multi-size fashion and beauty magazine for teens. Despite her wild hair, sensible shoes, and decidedly “basic” fashion sense, she also served as the Beauty and Fitness Director of Elle magazine for several years.

In 1990, her Grandma Ruth Appelbaum insisted on inviting Andrew Kagan to her 90th birthday party completely against her wishes. They married in 1992. They have two grey and white rescue kitties, Mouse and Clyde, and live in The Bronx.

While she still mainly sings and plays guitar for her cats and guitar teacher, she hopes that one day soon, she will finally get up the nerve to perform at an Open Mic.

She also helps produce the 4Bronx CommuniTea Podcast, and oversees Community Karaoke at the KRVC Community Space.

Meet Shari Hall!
Chief Financial Official/Assistant Director

Shari Hall joined KRVC in October 2008 with a public relations and marketing background. Ms. Hall currently manages day-to-day operations of KRVC. A former Kingsbridge native who moved out of the area and then returned to Riverdale to raise her family of two daughters, Ms. Hall is very committed to our community.  Both of Ms. Hall’s daughters are PS 81 graduates.  In addition to her personal and nostalgic interest, Ms. Hall is also vested in revitalizing this neighborhood so it continues to be a viable place to live in the Bronx.  She believes that preservation and development of the local stores, businesses and schools are vital to the survival of any community.  Through the efforts of KRVC and like-minded organizations, she hopes we can obtain this goal.

KRVC Welcomes Our New Executive Director!

Laura Levine-Pinedo (she/her) is a true Bronx girl. She was raised on W238th St and Review Place. She has over 20 years of experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry, and holds a BA in International Business.

In 2020, Laura founded The 4Bronx Project. The origin of The 4Bronx name comes from Laura being raised by her grandmother in apartment 4B. The 4Bronx takes what Laura learned in the home, and expands it borough-wide. Many times, Bronx stories are not told. Laura couldn't let that happen to her grandma. The 4Bronx Project was founded to ensure her Mema's spirit and legacy would continue.

In her opinion, The Bronx has been the forgotten borough for decades. Laura is excited to do her part to change that narrative by always putting The Bronx first. Currently, Laura is the first point of contact for (4) Bronx shelters. She directly services over 600 families with resources and entertainment. She has produced: carnivals, holiday parties, back-to-school events, self-love events, community libraries, and so much more. She would like to thank all of the volunteers and community partners that help make the magic happen! They are the local heroes! Her gratitude to them is immeasurable.

In addition, The 4Bronx Project also aims to promote and embrace the greater Riverdale community. Laura co-organizes: Riverdale Pride, Riverdale Restaurant Week, The Riverdale Easter Egg Hunt, BOO! On Mosholu, The Riverdale Women's Celebration, and so much more! She also produces small business spotlights, and has her own podcast, "The 4Bronx CommuniTea Podcast."

In 2023, Laura began as a small business resource specialist with The Bronx Chamber of Commerce and the NYC Small Business Resource Network. Her training has made her an advocate for Bronx businesses by providing resources to Bronx entrepreneurs. Some resources include: financing, marketing, legal, business strategy, and MWBE city and state certification.

Laura is passionate about creating a more inclusive community and giving a voice to Bronxites. She is enthusiastic about her new position and strengthening community partnerships. She feels honored to have been trained by Tracy Shelton, her predecessor, who laid the groundwork for many more great things to come. Thank you to the KRVC board for believing in her mission as well. Together, with your help, let's make our community thrive!

Laura is grateful for her husband, Andrew. She credits her mother for being a positive role model in business and life. Laura speaks fluent Spanish. She enjoys singing and traveling.

You can reach Laura directly at [email protected].

*The Interim period is 7/1/24-6/30/26.

A message from our Cultural Program Director: I have some news to share. I will be leaving KRVC at the end of June. I want to let you all know how grateful I am for the experiences I have had through my role here, and I’m even more grateful for all the wonderful people I have met and worked with.
I started working with KRVC in 2011. My kids were young and it was important to me to help build the artistic and cultural life in our community.
There are countless artists who I have gotten to know and who I truly admire. It’s been a privilege to work with so many talented people. Through all the concerts and art shows and readings, etc. that we have produced, the music and paintings and poems and books have enriched my life immeasurably and meant a great deal to me.
There are too many people to individually thank who made it possibly for me to do my job gracefully and often under pressure. I so appreciate all of you who have showed up, brought your expertise, and been a part of this thriving art community.
Big love to the KRVC team, the amazing women who have kept KRVC going through good times and hard times. A special thanks to Tracy for bringing me on in the beginning.
I am very pleased to let you all know Nina Seigenfeld Velazquez will be taking my place. Our new Interim Executive Director, Laura Levine-Pinedo, will be sharing more information about Nina soon. I know the new team is going to do amazing things and I’m so excited for all of them.
I will be continuing to pursue my own independent projects. Most recently I wrote and directed a short film (for more info follow me ). And I will definitely be seeing you around the neighborhood!

With tremendous gratitude and love,
Linda
