The NYU Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH) is committed to research training and capacity-building with a focus on building the career pathway to develop the next generation of community-engaged research leaders working to address health disparities and to advance health equity for Asian American and other socially marginalized populations. The CSAAH Pilot Project Program provides pilot grant awards, mentorship and training to supports postdoctoral fellows, junior faculty, and early-stage investigators to address health disparities and advance health equity for Asian American populations and to create a career pathway to research independence. This session will highlight the exceptional pilot projects led by the cohort of CSAAH pilot awardees, and explore current challenges, important considerations, and innovative approaches to partnership to community-engaged research and practices.

Session 3: Disaggregation of Data in Research & Policy (CSAAH Conference)
This session will focus on exploring the way in which disaggregation of data as a research practice supplements our objectives of gaining ground and visibility. Speakers will evaluate how disaggregated data collection supports collective progress in promoting health equity. Drawing from Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander policy and community research efforts, we will explore strategies to strengthen data collection methods and dissemination to tell compelling, full, and nuanced stories that reveal distinct experiences that are otherwise hidden.

This session will provide an overarching workshop and review of COVID-19's impact in Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NH/PI) communities. Speakers will discuss COVID-19 data in the NH/PI populations – framed around how discrimination (at an interpersonal level) and structural racism (at a policy-level) influence intersectional approaches to their work, while also drawing connections to data efforts and steps to building cross-community collaborations.
