Saturday, July 20th from 6 to 8 pm: The project entitled “Mirror” starts from this famous thesis of the Canadian theorist Marshall McLuhan, reflecting the omnipresent dilemma about the truthfulness of the media content.
The project consists works/drawings on newspaper pages, used by Jovanovik as a background on which to draw and intervene with drawings and messages, changing the context and attempting a creation of layers of new different meanings and a reality different than that presented or intended on the newspaper pages

Friday, October 20th from 6 to 8 pm: A Palm as a Measure – Nikola Smilkov’s Figurines
The extraordinary tactility of figurines that can almost fit into the palm of one hand, their dimensions and the subtle processing of stone in the latest cycle of Nikola Smilkov reveal the idea of something extremely subtle and fragile, preserved as something precious; but, at the same time, a very suggestive impression of monumentality has been achieved by using wide and clean surfaces.

"Your umbilical cord is cut twice, once when you are born and once when your mother dies." explores motherhood, fertility challenges, adoption, abuse, love, and mortality in my family.
The project's title originates from a saying my mother said (although she denies ever having said it!) underscoring the emotional and energetic connections formed within the matrilineal lineage and female bonds. Through a recorded conversation between my mother, sister, and me this installation unfolds as a portrait of the women in my family. As the soundscape fills the space, it corresponds with neon sculptures, each voice triggering a different colored thread of neon. These threads converge at the center of the installation, forming a pulsating knot of light, symbolizing a tangled neon umbilical cord. Visitors will be surrounded by the voices and stories, creating an immersive experience that draws them into the narrative. The fragility and electric colors of the glass, neon sculpture mirror the intricate relationships between parents and children – full of vibrancy and energy yet breakable.

About Gallery MC
GALLERY MC NEW YORK
Gallery MC is a non-profit multicultural interdisciplinary art gallery committed to the research, production, presentation and interpretation of contemporary art. The gallery supports emerging artists and explores ideas at the junction of arts, performance, and architecture.
Gallery MC has an open yet critical approach to the possible meanings of art in contemporary society. The gallery presents various arts: visual arts, architecture, dance, media arts, music, theatre, writing and publishing, interdisciplinary work and performance art, and encourages collaboration across these disciplines. It does this through exhibitions, performances, lectures, symposia, residencies, publications, multicultural events and educational programs.
Gallery MC does synesthesia of creativity in the widest sense of the word. We believe in crosspollination, mutations, and integration of discourses across the artistic fields. We present the place where the fusion of ideas transforms the reality and open venues of lucid thinking.
