Katelyn Alain
“Treading in Time Space”, 2017
oil on canvas, 48 x 36”
Read below for a full description of “Treading in Time Space” in the words of Katelyn:
“I was thinking about what an archetype for inner power might look like and how I might depict coming home to center amid a world in chaos. What comes across first is her luminous orb-like head that appears floating in a red ochre ground. She treads in a metaphorical oceanic or womb-like space outside of time where the action and movement of the physical world and body is distilled around a steady and direct gaze. There is much in the painting that is easily missed in a jpg, but in the subtle depiction of arms and legs in movement I pay homage to the many armed goddesses of the east that dance with the creative and changing powers of life. In stylistic approach I was inspired by unfinished masterworks of the renaissance that I became enamored with not just because they appear so contemporary, but because in what is left unsaid and untold, the brain has the freedom and potential to complete the work and the piece can then continually unfold for every viewer.”
📣 You don’t want to miss this! During the run of our current exhibition “Faces & Figures”, Carole Freeman will be creating stunning portraits LIVE and you can participate!
