Subject NYC
Subject is your New York neighborhood cocktail bar with great craft beer and spirits. Don’t hesitate to tell us what you think. We look forward to meeting you!
Subject LES is more than just your neighborhood bar, but less than a pretentious cocktail bar. We found ourselves somewhere in the middle, serving up expertly crafted cocktails using all housemade ingredients. At Subject LES we welcome you as you are, no dressing up, to enjoy a delicious drink over conversation with your friends. Our expert bartenders love serving up new creations, and also classi
Join us for an endlessly charming, very witchy happy hour celebrating spirits from Gallo from 6-9 this Wednesday. These spectral cocktails will be $5 off and featured through the end of May. James Vincent will be celebrating his birthday and you can pick up your favorite candles and conjurings from Rebels & Outlaws. These candles were poured in the new moon to welcome spring and illuminate Eclipse season.
Enjoy a complimentary Astrology reading with Travis Mann. Explore the wisdom embedded in your Birth Chart, and the activations from the current Astrological weather. Bring your birth time for a most accurate reading.
We've put together some lovely cocktails with Los Magos sotol and we'll be featuring a happy hour tomorrow from 6-8. Co-founder JP Carvajal will be in attendance, the vibes will be correct, and there will be a little bit of fun education to go along with the stellar drinks.
From Brian | It would be very difficult to share the full scope of what L.B. Holten has done for Subject over the past seven years. He had filled in even before as barback when Matt Rush owned it and he was one of the first hires when Leslie and I took over. So, in point of fact, he's worked at Subject longer than I have, basically for a decade. He's now branching out. A talent as big as his could not be contained in one place any longer. This Friday and Saturday will be his last shifts. He'll be working open until about 1 am on both nights if you want to catch him one more time at Subject. I know wherever he goes in what I know will be a long and successful career, he'll continue to grow and educate himself and the ones around him. This is what he's done as long as we've been friends. I would count those people he will eventually work with to be exceptionally lucky. So if you'd like to drop by tomorrow or Saturday, you'll get to see a little more magic while it's still here.
It's fitting that the only time we watch something other than movies on the big screen is to view the Oscars. We have a nice set up - sound for the ceremony in back (with music up front), endlessly provided popcorn and some killer cocktails from our friends from Don Fulano and Lo Fi Aperitifs. We've also got some prizes for the winners who call the most categories, so do brush up on short film's you've never heard of. Starting at 7 and ending at...4 in the morning? Blankets and pillows will be provided after 1 am if they're still announcing the winner of Sound Effects Editing.
Almost seven years ago, the current version of Subject came to be on the fly with the lights turned low, a bunch of candles set out, movies thrown on the screen and a menu that was typed up in the dish room on the fly. The bar is admittedly different now. But because of the love and support of so many people, it stayed exactly the same and improved in every way. It maintained the heart and soul of the bar started by Matt Rush, Chris Harrington and Logan McHenfry. This Thursday, we're going to return to our roots a bit - no table service, a high-low menu and perhaps too many shots going out. Pizza, tacos and burgers will be on us throughout the night and we'll have a tight, playful drink menu, the kind that never turned up its nose on an exceptional Appletini. Please join us and a bunch of friendly faces to celebrate our lucky number anniversary.
Our dear friend Travis Mann, a regular from the early days, will be in NY doing spiritual readings at Subject before we open on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. An intuitive medium fluid in tarot and astrology, he provides sensitive, illuminating and open sessions. There are a few options available for while he's in the city. Link for the event is in our bio.
On Wednesday starting at 5 p.m., we're doing a special screening of Happy Hour History, the new Amazon series that explores the intimate connections between alcohol and historical events. David S. Mayne (PBS, The History Detectives) has brought together America’s top bartenders, historians, and film artists. This live event comes with a free welcome cocktail and exclusive preview samples of new Glemorangie & Ardbeg releases from the national brand ambassadors. Want more booze? Extra cocktails are half off. Space is limited so please register with the link in the bio.
A pretty ideal place to watch the Academy Awards with some novel and tasty Don Fulano and Santa Teresa cocktails. Sound will be on in back with music upfront.
"Under the Shade"
It's intended as a sort of refreshing daiquiri/French 75 situation, but there's a deeper sense of flavor here. Copalli White Rum at the base and cremant sparkling wine on the top. In between: Giffard Menthe Pastille, demerara for some richness, fresh lemon, saline and Bittermens celery shrub. It's clean, bright, with a touch of savory and an underlining cooling note from the mint. It's a backyard-under-a-tree Spring drink. But you can have it here underneath a lampshade and near a cute plant.
1.25 oz Copalli White Rum + 2 barspoons Menthe Pastille + .5 oz demerara + .5 oz fresh lemon + 2 tincture squeezes of Bittermens Celery Shrub + 2 drops saline + a dry sparkling wine
Until 6 p.m. tonight, The Community Spirit Vendor's Market will be populating our café. Please join us for exceptional vodka cocktails for $10, great vibes all around, and some real cool art, jewelry, clothes and other rad handcrafted items.
On Saturday, February 12th (tomorrow!) from noon until six, we'll be collaborating with The Community Spirit to host a holiday vendor market in the spirit of those, you know...Christmas ones. Except, it's a lot warmer now, and the drinks are waaaaaaaay better. Split between our fancy outdoor space and inside throughout the (also low key fancy) bar, there will be 15 diverse vendors from the hospitality industry. If you're anticipating a lot of early morning vodka cocktails made with Community Spirit Vodka, you're 100% correct. We assure you the Espresso Martini is highly caffeinated.
Today is National Spicy Margarita Day! For now and for the rest of the week, every time you order The Devil You Know (Tanteo Jalapeño, Pamplemousse, Agave, Fresh Lime, Seltzer), $1 will be donated to Un Salto con Destino, which focuses on river cleanups both in Mexico and locally at the Newtown Creek. The drink is also exceptionally tasty. Bonuses all around.
Last night, we decided it felt right to keep this lovely room empty until after Christmas out of concern for our guests and for us. We'll be hitting those testing lines a bunch and we'll come back when we feel it's the right time. Thank you, as always, for the support. Stay safe, be kind.
When your door is broken the night before Thanksgiving...
Please join us after a hurried day of shopping for a complimentary Teeling cocktail between 5 and 7. Simply bring in a receipt showing a purchase at a local business and three lovely options will be ready for you.
We have a new bar. It's gorgeous.
Today we HAVE a bar. Indeed, we are fancy. But unless anyone has a bar top we can borrow (just until the morning!), we will have to remain closed tonight. Tomorrow, the bar install will be finished and we'll be open no matter what. We look forward to having everyone experience it and to marvel at the beautiful marble bar top being added tomorrow...
It's Monday and BYOB (Bring Your Own Bar) Day! Please expect the drinks to take :40-:70 minutes longer than usual. Unless! You bring your own bar!
We'll be closed tonight and tomorrow to install the new, gorgeous beauty. We'll update with posts throughout the week.
"Hundred Acre Wood" If you're wondering if that's a Winnie the Poo reference for a honey cocktail, that's amazing. You haven't even read the ingredients yet. Aberfeldy 12 Year, Green Chartreuse, Dry Curacao, fresh lemon and honey from Tremblay Apiaries come together for a righteously bright cocktail that hits deep floral and chocolate notes. We menu'd this late Summer cocktail to help promote , Aberfeldy's partnership with worldwide beekeepers to support communities that create local and novel honey. For every post you make of , Aberfeldy will donate $20 to help save endangered bee communities. And...World Honey Bee Day is today! What a great way to support and celebrate.
A year and a half ago, we celebrated three years of Subject with all of our friends. To welcome everyone back into the standard Subject environment (standing room, movement!), we're going to celebrate Brian Grummert's birthday with some cheap cocktails, a Taco Bell bar and a stack of pizzas. To make it properly special, Kacie and Luke Lambert will be flying in to be the guests of honor. Anticipate a sing along at some point and assuredly several rounds of Braulio shots.
