One of the most special places in the entire world of wine, the beautiful crest of L’Hermite. Jean Louis and Erin Chave care for the precious vineyards and mythical terroir on the hallowed hillside of Hermitage, a labor of love passed down through Jean Louis’ family for generations

GCS Marche? Sì!
The duo of wines from , Da Solo and Insieme, are quintessential (and quenching!) Verdicchios from Le Marche on Italy’s Adriatic coast. They both come from a single swath of vineyards with different soils, altitudes and expositions in the Castelli di Jesi appellation. We have been crushing both, and can’t wait to welcome the new vintage of Insieme in a few days. The 2023 has screaming acidity and sharpness from a cool, fresh growing season that lended to its great sapidity.

When the heat of summer seems too much to bear, we turn to Portugal for pure summer sipping satisfaction. Heading inland, just as the Atlantic's influence gives way to the knobby, river-split hills, we find the Dão. Completely surrounded by granitic mountains, it is a bucolic oasis, with historic viticulture magnificence, a shining quieted peace. (Check the old map we found)

The vines are not as easy to find, as there are rarely contiguous vineyards. That's why we rely on Nuno Mira do O, (the guy in the shades) to guide us to his humble plots, about 500M above beach level, on a rise of stony clay beds. Here Nuno farms his Druida Encruzado, the notable Portuguese mono-varietal Branco, which he ferments naturally (in full-wood) in his over-crowded cellar tucked behind the apple orchard. With just enough bottle age, it reveals a crystalline-framed, mystically full wine, with a citrus scented sensitivity to the cool granite of Dão. Pure refreshment with depth and complexity, so off the palate pure, it asks what might happen if Burgundy was headed to the beach as well? (Right, .crusher ?)

Since founding Sake Suki in 2013, Yumiko Munekyo has tirelessly introduced Americans to some of the best jizake (regional artisan sake) made in Japan. The eight small craft breweries in her stellar portfolio represent not only centuries of tradition but also younger, modern innovators, all with a shared determination of making sake of the highest quality.
Our tasting on Monday, June 26 is not to be missed. Congratulations on ten years!

Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne was a business consultant in Paris before switching to wine in 2004. He built an impressive resume: M.Sc. in Agronomy (AgroParisTech), a Masters in Viticulture, and the French National Diploma of Enology (Montpellier SupAgro). A biodynamics devotee, he worked for growers who shared the same passion: Olivier Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace and Anne-Claude Leflaive in Burgundy. He is also a biodynamic consultant and wrote several books on biodynamics.

Antoine wanted to make his own wine and founded his micro negoce, La Pierre Ronde, for the 2021 vintage. It is named after a millstone that was in his previous house in Saint Romain. Incidentally, he bought this house from Thierry Guyot, one of Burgundy’s biodynamic pioneers.

Antoine’s vinification reflects his personality: thoughtful and undogmatic. He uses sulfites sensibly (as little as possible and as late as possible, depending on the wine). He mostly makes whites from the Côte de Beaune, vinified in larger 350-liter barrels, Stockinger foudres, and Tava amphoras. Some of the grapes come from his biodynamic consultancy clients.

The wines sit in between natural and classic–the type of wines that excite us most. They are beautifully pure, refined, and elegant. ✨✨

The Guinaudeau family, vine growers of the six prestigious vineyards of Société Civile du Château Lafleur, share with all of us at Grand Cru Selections the same spirit and ethos of authenticity, pursuit of excellence and a deep love and respect for terroir.
Since its foundation by Henri Greloud in 1872, Lafleur has been owned, managed, and most importantly, farmed by five successive generations of the same family. The Guinaudeaus are the real deal when it comes to vine growing. Fashions do not hold any weight here. It is all about the vines, the soils and the women and men who craft these wines of purity and balance.
Words cannot express our excitement and gratitude to Sylvie, Jacques, Julie, Baptiste, and the entire Guinaudeau family for entrusting us with their wines. We are proud to be their new ambassadors on the East Coast and to work side by side with the family in making the US a great home for their six wines.
