It's Halloween week and the ghosts of Lindenwood VAC responded to two calls for help in Ozone Park.
October 26, 2023
To the Residents of Ozone Park, South Ozone Park and Lindenwood:
It has recently come to our attention that there is social media post that is critical of our agency. It appears that we have become the target of an individual’s fustration with a building management company. While we sympathize with the situation that is faced by the people who reside in the building, we feel that this attack on our organization is uncalled for and unjust.
Established in 1970, we have proudly served the communities of Lindenwood, Ozone Park and South Ozone Park. We are a one hundred percent volunteer organization. No individual receives any compensation PERIOD. We are insulted and disgusted that an accusation such as this has been levied against our organization. Never once has any member of this agency been contacted by Mr. Esposito in regards to any matter. We would have liked to have been afforded an opportunity to have directly addressed any concerns he may had prior to going to posting on social media.
To address some of the items in the social media post. First, every ambulance service in New York State is given a service response area. These areas are defined by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of EMS. There is no bidding process as stated in the social media rant. However, EMS agencies are bound to these defined areas stated by NYSDOH. With that said, Lindenwood VAC, has not filed a formal complaint to any state agency regarding any encroachment on our primary response area in over 20 years to our knowledge. Unlike Mr. Esposito, If there was an issue, we would have reached out to the other agency personally to resolve any problems before others get involved.
Secondly, as previously mentioned this organization runs on all volunteers. That means people donate their time to help our communities. This is where our problem lies, human capitol. The past few years have been hard on volunteerism, the economy and health crisis such as Ebola and more recently the COVID-19 pandemic have dwindled the numbers of people willing to serve in EMS services. This is seen all throughout health care, as the need for skilled medical professionals has risen all over the nation. If its hard for hospitals to hire paid health care professionals. Imagine how hard it is to retain an unpaid volunteer. Lindenwood VAC even offers free medical training to members. While this has provided some additional members, more often than not, the member obtains his or her certifications and leaves us for a paid full time position.
In addition, there are other factors. There are minimum staffing requirements as well as some certifications in order to have a crew available. We strive to put out as many crews as possible. In a perfect world we would have a twenty-four hour seven day a week operation, however this is not the case. We are always looking for qualified volunteers. Maybe Mr. Esposito can obtain an Emergency Medical Technician certificate and come and volunteer and be part of the solution.
Now to address the most upsetting part of the social media rant. The questioning of the integrity of the members and officers of this organization. The suggestion that there are improprieties in the finances of this organization is downright disgusting and repulsive. Every penny that this organization makes, be it from donations, discretionary grants or any other source goes back one hundred percent into the operation of this organization. We have an independent accountant review our books and file our IRS-990 Non-Profit Tax Return every year as required by law. Never in the over fifty-year history of this organization have we been accused of any financial improprieties. Mr. Esposito’s accusations are without any merit or fact and should be considered libelous.
Lastly, “community advocates” unlike Mr. Esposito would have reached out to our organization to ask us how they could help expand and further the services we provide. Neither Mr. Esposito or any of the groups he is or were affiliated with ever reached out to us to be of assistance. He is supposed to strive to find solutions not to cause issues or throw around baseless accusations. We also question this out of left field social media rant. It is apparent that Mr. Esposito has gone out of his way and did a lot of research on our organization and mentioned our name at least three times in his rant, yet only mentions the management company once, and no mention about their assets nor makes accusations about their finances. All of this has us questioning what are Mr. Esposito’s real motives behind this post, as this seems more directed at our organization then the management company and the building issues the residents of the building are experiencing.
Sincerely,
Christopher DeLuca, AEMT-P
Chief of the Department
Commanding Officer
Lindenwood VAC

Jose Sr. joined Lindenwood VAC in 1996 and it was immediately apparent his love and dedication to his community. After 30 years of dedicated service to the communities of Lindenwood, Ozone Park and South Ozone Park, Deputy Chief John Buonincontri has announced he will be resigning his position at Lindenwood VAC. He and his family are relocating to Florida after accepting a transfer from his full-time employer, US Department of Homeland Security.
Deputy Chief Buonincontri started with Lindenwood VAC in 1993 as an ambulance attendant and vehicle operator. Later, he became a NYS certified Emergency Medical Technician. John has held many roles with in Lindenwood VAC, including Quartermaster, Financial Secretary and Lieutenant which transitioned to Deputy Chief in 2000 under a title restructuring. Deputy Chief Buonincontri was instrumental in many key moments in Lindenwood VAC’s history. There is not much in the past 30 years that John has not been a part of.

After a long hard battle, PO Fayaz succumbed to his injuries this evening.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fayaz family and his brothers and sisters of the NYPD, as they deal and cope with his passing.
Rest in Peace, New York City Police Officer Adeed Fayaz, Shield 3652, 66th Precinct,
End of Watch: Tuesday, February 7, 2023

As we say good bye to 2022 and welcome 2023, the Officers and Members of Lindenwood VAC would like to wish you all a very healthy and happy new year.
