HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

FEBRUARY VACATION DAY 2021 The Ridge Creative Center @ Union Church We are happy to announce that all of the art by our students mentioned below, as well as "Winter Collages" from our Pre-K students at TRCC @ RSJ can be seen at Charmed on 3rd Avenue through the end of March. Thanks Charmed Theme: Lunar New Year Project: Golden oxen made from tubes. The challenge was to build using curved objects and balance. Trip: We will walk to a local restaurant to get take out - long noodles to guarantee a long life and dumplings to guarantee abundance. Special Activities: Chopstick race. Theme: Presidents Day Project: We will be learning about the early years of Washington and Lincoln. The students will choose one of the Presidents and create a booklet with illustrations and captions that highlight his life. Trip: In honor of the apocryphal story of Washington cutting down the cherry tree we will get cherry pastries from a local bakery. “Long before he was President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln was known to put on an apron and help his wife cook dinner after a hard day's work. He favored mostly simple food, like corned beef and cabbage, venison and apples.” 16 of Abraham Lincoln's Favorite Foods | Taste of Home In his honor we will be getting a dessert with apples, Special Activities: George Washington Jump Rope Street Game, Pitching Lincoln Pennies. Theme: Snow Days Project: As we include the written word in our studies and exploration in a variety of art techniques, "Winter Storm" combines both. We paired the written word and added drawings that were enhanced with crayons. We then used a color wash over it all, creating the effect of a snowstorm. The wax from the crayons repel the paint.
