Two alumni, Liyah from Hatikvah International Academy Charter School and Dana from Hebrew Language Academy Charter School, met on the Capstone trip to Israel in 8th grade.
They reconnected in Israel last summer during their alum leadership experience at Ben Shemen Youth Village. After participating in the ADL conference for high school students, the girls became good friends and were invited to write articles for Jewish Unpacked.
Here is their joint article that was released:
Why travel to Poland? Two Gen Z perspectives - Unpacked Daniella Pikman and Liyah Rozett share their experiences visiting Poland on "March of the Living" and a family trip and insights they gained.
School's out! ☀️
Happy summer to all our families and friends. See you in September!
Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, by closing our schools and offices.
Juneteenth holds deep significance as it marks the liberation of all enslaved individuals in America and their descendants. On this day in 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached enslaved communities in Galveston, Texas, almost two years after their freedom was officially declared.
In the spirit of Lifelong Learning, we honor Juneteenth and stand with our community by sharing the Juneteenth flag. This flag, adorned with red, white, and blue, mirrors the American flag's colors, symbolizing that all those who were once enslaved and their descendants are now recognized as American citizens by law.
Alumni appreciation post!
Zhara, Hebrew Language Academy Charter School's 2019 Valedictorian, excelled as a student-athlete, securing the first-ever basketball championship trophy at HLA and contributing to South Shore High School's top 25 ranking in the US, where she is the 2023 Valedictorian.
Her commitment led to winning two NYC PSAL Girls Basketball City Championships and earning an athletic scholarship to Le Moyne University. We are incredibly proud of Zhara's achievements in academics and sports, and we have complete confidence in her future success in college.
Congratulations to Zhara for her outstanding accomplishments on and off the court.
