The Ear Inn
The Ear Inn. The oldest working bar in NYC. As one of New York's oldest restaurants and bars, its incumbent on us to serve the freshest bar food in the city.
The libations don't stop until 4 am daily, but our kitchen closes at 2 am Monday through Thursday. Friday through Saturday we serve food until 3 am and on Sunday the kitchen closes at 1 am. Since the liberation from Prohibition, the bar had no name. To sailors and longshoremen, it was like a clubhouse and known as "The Green Door." In 1977, new resident-owners christened the place the Ear Inn, so

Tomorrow is the day!! We can’t wait to see everyone!
Let the countdown begin!
At last, the day is near!
Under the cover of CoVid darkness, the EAR Inn has been quietly creating an EAR Inn Out House. It will be a home for work from our local artists-in-residence - as well as a convivial space, once we reopen, to enjoy each other again.
And congratulations to our first Artist-in-Residence, the magnificent and witty, Catharina Cosin, who has already graced the walls of the "EAR Out" with a laughing Teddy Roosevelt - who tried unsuccessfully as far back as 1894 to close the EAR Inn - and her tribute to the Begger Baron Mack the Knife.
We are closed. You are thirsty. You are hungry. We are closed. But not forever. We have hope! (And we want our beer!)
Hello All!! Thank you all for your continuing support and good wishes. While we are still unable to open because our diminutive size prohibits social distancing, our sister restaurant Walker's is finally up and operating as of today. Feel free to stop by 16 N. Moore & Varick and enjoy another of Manhattan's old iconic bars. And we'll keep you updated on when, hopefully, finally, safely the EAR can re-open!!

We miss you all!
SUNDAY NIGHTS AT 326 SPRING STREET (Part One) — WE NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO: SESSIONS AT THE EAR INN, featuring THE EarRegulars (2007 – the Future) I am a relentless optimist — otherwise I wouldn’t be typing now — but there’s not much even I can muster up about the recent past and the continuing present. What Is New York Without New York Bars?
I miss the promise the night offers. Liquor bottles standing sentry behind the bartender. The endless possibility in conversations overheard, lives intersecting.

Technology and The Pandemic: A 1918 Musician’s Crossroad - Red Hook Star-Revue 1918 was a strange intersection for musicians even before the 1918 Flu Pandemic hit. These were the final times that music would be experienced primarily the way it had been for thousands of years. With the exception of music boxes that evolved into player pianos, music had always been performed liv...
