St. James' Church, Manhattan
A community that actively shares the love of Jesus Christ with each other, our city, and the world.
Today, to celebrate the Feast Day of St. James, we gathered for a Hymn Sing AND enjoyed our Director of Music, Kenneth Miller, and our Associate Rector, Matt Oprendek, tickling the ivories!
Praying for peace at this time.
We are so delighted to welcome Kenneth Miller to the St. James’ community! He officially began his ministry with us during this morning’s 10:00 a.m. service, offering beautiful organ playing, conducting our Canterbury Choir, and expertly leading the congregation in song. Ken will serve as our principal organist and director of our adult and children’s choirs. Welcome, Ken!

The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Easter brings meaning, hope, and joy to the world. Thanks to our altar guild, ushers, readers, chalice bearers, egg-hunters, the faithful gathered, and the Holy Spirit, we kept the feast with joy, gladness, and the beauty of holiness. It is a gift to share life together at St. James’, and I will always treasure this first Holy Week and Easter serving as your rector. This is a season of hope and renewal in the church, and the risen Christ promises to make all things new.
Happy Easter!
Zack
Today at St. James’ | Easter Day
Today at St. James’ | Easter Day What a joy it is to celebrate this feast—the greatest of all—with you. The mystery of Easter shows us that with Christ there is always a future for us. After Good Friday, Jesus’ disciples thought that the abundant life they had come to know and share was over, a thing of the past. But the rise...
We have kept watch with the blessed sacrament through the night and venerated the cross. This morning we sit in silence, waiting for the light to break forth. Join us tonight at 7:00 for the Easter Vigil as we sing: This is the night, when you brought our fathers, the children of Israel, out of bo***ge in Egypt, and led them through the Red Sea on dry land.
This is the night, when all who believe in Christ are delivered
from the gloom of sin, and are restored to grace and holiness
of life.
This is the night, when Christ broke the bonds of death and hell, and rose victorious from the grave.

On this day the Church remembers the poet and priest, George Herbert. Here is a poem of his called Love (III) for this second Tuesday in Lent. Love bade me welcome. Yet my soul drew back
Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning,
If I lacked any thing.
A guest, I answered, worthy to be here:
Love said, You shall be he.
I the unkind, ungrateful? Ah my dear,
I cannot look on thee.
Love took my hand, and smiling did reply,
Who made the eyes but I?
Truth Lord, but I have marred them: let my shame
Go where it doth deserve.
And know you not, says Love, who bore the blame?
My dear, then I will serve.
You must sit down, says Love, and taste my meat:
So I did sit and eat.
