Today, we're excited to introduce 2050 ARTISTIC FELLOWS Derick Edgren Otero, Nikki Massoud, Andres Santiago Piña, Danica Selem and Christie Zhao and 2050 ADMINISTRATIVE FELLOWS Shania Benjamin, Marty Chandler, Salwa Meghjee and Tyra Mishell! 🎉🎊
THE 2050 FELLOWSHIP is named in celebration of the U.S. Census Bureau’s projection that by the year 2050, there will be no single racial or ethnic majority in the United States. This projection provokes thoughts at New York Theatre Workshop about the transformations that will take place in the American landscape—demographically, technologically, environmentally and artistically—now and in the future. They're a catalyst for broader questions about our ever-transforming field. How can theatre challenge our conceptions of storytelling? How can we push aesthetic boundaries in the 21st century? What's the power of theater today?

“Auschwitz and the other camps whose names haunt our textbooks were mysteries to outsiders—this was part of their power. It took so many efforts of reconstruction like the one dramatized by ‘Here There Are Blueberries’ just to know, belatedly, what exactly went on.”

The Chilling Truth Pictured in “Here There Are Blueberries” Moisés Kaufman’s play dramatizes the discovery of a photo album of N**is at leisure at Auschwitz, and the reckoning it provoked.
The MIND THE GAP application deadline is just around the corner! If you’re a teen (14-19) or elder (60+), consider applying for our intergenerational theatre program by Mon, June 3 at 5PM ET. https://www.nytw.org/education/mind-the-gap/
One of the most fun experiences in MIND THE GAP is the final play readings! Near the end of the 6-week program, participants enjoy an invited work-in-process presentation in which professional actors read their plays aloud. All of the plays are developed from scratch and are inspired by an intergenerational partner’s personal stories.
Here’s a look at some of our favorite photos from the spring 2024 cohort’s final play readings! 📸: Adam Fontana

These wonderful people you’re seeing aren’t related, but they’re definitely like one big family now. They were actually part of our most recent MIND THE GAP cohort from earlier this spring. And they were all strangers before they began our 12-week intergenerational theatre program.
The relationships people forge with others from a different generation are what make MIND THE GAP so special. Through theatre, this program champions and nurtures community-building and understanding what it means to be alive today.
If you’re a teen (14-19) or elder (60+) and this sounds like something you’re interested in being part of this summer, apply for our next MIND THE GAP cohort by June 3 at 5PM. No prior theatre experience is required and it’s absolutely FREE to join! Learn more and apply at https://www.nytw.org/education/mind-the-gap/

Choreographer Liz Lerman recently joined NYTW earlier this May to lead a series of workshops on her famous development, the Critical Response Process.
Through the supportive structure of its four core steps, Critical Response Process combines the power of questions with the focus and challenge of informed dialogue. The Process offers makers an active role in the critique of their own work. It gives makers a way to rehearse the connections they seek when art meets it audience or a product meets its purpose.
Critical Response Process instills ways of thinking, communicating and being that enhance all kinds of human interactions, from coaching to community dialogue, from artistic collaboration to family conversations.

2020/21 Season Announcements
We’re pleased to share our artistic and operational plans for the coming year, which have been developed in accordance with our Core Values. In our ongoing commitment to becoming a fully anti-racist organization, we’re publishing those Core Values alongside action steps to interrogate our practices, disrupt patterns that reinforce institutionalized oppressions and inequities, acknowledge our missteps, and hold our organization to a standard that does not accept that this work is ever done. We stand in solidarity with the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) members of our community, and we recognize that have not always lived up to these values and must contend with the harm that those shortcomings have caused.
NYTW ARTISTIC UPDATE:
While the timeline for resuming in-person performances in New York City remains uncertain, we believe great work is still possible!
We’re committing resources to support a group of extraordinary Artistic Instigators to create and develop new work and to share that work with audiences in both existing formats and in ways yet to be imagined.
