My favorite hour is member hours at the Metropolitan museum of art.
9am-10am
When the museum is closed to the public.
It’s just me and the dresses this morning.
“Women Dressing Women” is an exhaustive presentation of women designers, New York to Paris.
Three things I learned this morning:
1. The war made room for female support staff in Europe to start to rise up beyond seamstress and become designers. In Paris there was advocacy to create the first women’s guild
2. “When I stopped trying to fit into an industry that wasn’t ready to embrace me, was when I saw milestones of success” this can be applied to so many industries
3. I saw stories of brands like Alexander McQueen flourish under the leadership of a woman. Especially when she was working with a particularly hard to work with male designer
4. I saw women being inclusive and designing for people impacted by aphrodisia (smaller people) and folks in wheelchairs affected by cerebral palsy.
5 I saw lapses in attribution to women bc history couldn’t trace the designer.
6. Women working to free the female population from restrictive corsets and lace so they could move as effortlessly as their male counterparts
Thank you for the special birthday Kavita Mehra
This last week, I returned home from 15 days of working and living in Barcelona.
When the client work and much longed for dinner reservation was complete, I wanted to spend my actual 51st birthday date (Dec 12th) in Spain, so I flew home the morning after.
If anyone is thinking about Barcelona remote-work possibilities (or even solo retreat possibilities), here are 6 metrics I use to evaluate a city's prospects for either a client VIP Day or retreat:
1. I Consider Safety
2. I Consider Cab/Train Access
3. I Pick my Airbnb.
4. I Consider Access to Gyms
5. I Pick the Work Space
6. I Consider Ease of Access to the Arts
7. Shopping I'm a woman.
I won't lie, I love to shop. So do my clients. Barcelona offers a wide array of shopping from the name brand stores, but also offers plenty of Spanish designers such as Lurdes Belgrada, Javier Simorra, Yerse.
My full shopping haul here in the 12.17 Edition of "What I Did Last Week (and what I'm looking forward to)

In 2017, I discovered a restaurant.
I couldn’t even pronounce the name.
But it consistently came up #1 in the worlds 50 best restaurants. It also got a Michelin star in 2018,2019.
All that to say—- I couldn’t get in.
I had made several vision boards over the years.
What I would wear
Where I would stay
How I would I show up
I even messaged them as I turned 50
“I’ll come for lunch for 1”
No
In January of 2023 I checked
“Booking for spring 2024”
My friend Jane said “just put your name on the list. When they say, yes, we will go.”
They said ‘yes’
I go tonight.
This is 51.

3 reasons to invest in professional photos of a retreat or your next business event
📸 They help promote and advertise who was there and can create future opportunity. I’ve been hiring pro photographers since the first event July 2012 and always remembering to tag attendees. Henri Bendel, a luxury department store in New York, saw the photos on social media and partnered with me to host and sponsor my next 3 events. Attendance swelled to 300 per event after that and was instrumental in building the initial community for my women’s leadership platform.
📸 High-quality photos capture the surroundings and unique features of the retreat, which can set you apart from the competition. I hired a drone for this weeks retreat for the Samita Lab Mastermind to capture how deep in the Tuscan hills our villa retreat is. I’ve also taken time daily to write a story to bring my audience along on the journey. A person in my network I’ve been wanting to meaningfully connect with saw my photos, reached out and asked to set up a call with me upon my return.
📸 Pro photos are an investment in marketing
If you have gone to the trouble of setting up the event why not have a high quality capture of it for future marketing materials?
I’ve hired photographers inexpensively off Craigs list in different cities around the world.
Remember to ask for and review their website. In this case, I saw that Fabio was an accomplished photographer but I didnt see his drone footage. I asked for it and he sent files. How the photographer communicates on the front end, also indicates how they will communicate on the back end.
