Have you heard of this movie before?
ABOUT THE FILM:
This film was released in 1973 by filmmaker Ivan Dixon. It’s based on a 1969 book by the same title written by Sam Greenlee, who later went on to write the script. The story follows Dan Freeman who joins the CIA with the intent to bring the skills he learned back to his own community, tension arises as he shifts his focus to Black Liberation.
WHY IT WAS BANNED:
The NYT said in Sept 2020, “”Spook” opened in September 1973 in the midst of televised Watergate hearings, several years after the F.B.I.’s secret Counterintelligence Program (Cointelpro) disabled the Black Panthers.” Needless to say white American was spooked. The FBI had the movie pulled from theaters after just a few weeks, out of fear of a National Black riot.
Continuing our “BANNED FROM THEATERS” series we will be showing “The spook who sat by the door” tmrw 12/27 6:45pm.
