If you are in Albany tonight for the State of the State please stop by our event in support of the Equal Rights Amendment! We are stronger together.

Congress Passed a Money Laundering Law. Interest Groups Are Still Fighting It. 01/02/2024

My Corporate Transparency Act took effect Jan. 1st (originally passing in 2020) after several years of rulemaking by the Dept. of Treasury. The CTA changes the calculus of those who seek to hide or launder their funds through LLCs and other shell corporations—requiring the disclosure of the true owners of such corporations. Perhaps most important, it imposes liability on the CPAs, lawyers, and trustees who, up to now, were not required to really know their customers; now they must.

Those who profit from secrecy don't like it— and neither do the fraudsters and terrorists who benefit— which is why it took more than a dozen years to shepherd the CTA through the House. It's a big, overdue change, and I'm proud of it.

Congress Passed a Money Laundering Law. Interest Groups Are Still Fighting It. A law to require disclosure of corporate ownership takes effect Jan. 1. Small businesses and banks say it would be too burdensome and are turning to lobbying and the courts to delay or block it.

Meryl Streep has signed the petition!

Thank you, Meryl, for taking a stand in this important fight. The Equal Rights Amendment would mean gender equality for all. Join us. Sign and share the petition today. When women succeed, America succeeds.

Meryl visited us to perform as Eleanor Roosevelt at the Roosevelt House in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I think that Eleanor Roosevelt would certainly agree that gender equality is a human right.

Justice Sandra Day O’Connor was a trailblazer in every way. As the first woman on the Supreme Court she redefined womanhood in this country, and led the “O’Connor Court.”

She fought tirelessly for Americans, including championing the Equal Rights Amendment. She inspired me & a whole generation of women.

Rosalynn Carter was a great first lady and trailblazer.

She professionalized the office of First Lady and her deep sense of empathy radiated through everything she did. As an advocate for mental health and women’s rights she testified before Congress many times. My condolences to all that knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Equal Rights Amendment Petition | Sign4ERA 11/08/2023

“The only difference between a battered woman and a dead woman is the presence of a gun”

Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for the United States v. Rahimi. This case has the potential to overturn federal laws which help stop those under domestic violence protective orders from possessing fi****ms. Simply, that means more guns in the hands of abusers.

As our right to safety is threatened, I am reminded of the desperate need Americans have for the Equal Rights Amendment. With the ERA we could create stronger protections for domestic violence victims and solidify women’s equality as bedrock in the Constitution. Join me in signing and sharing the petition, which calls on Congress to immediately recognize the Equal Rights Amendment at www.Sign4ERA.org. The time is now. Lives are truly at stake.

It was my pleasure to attend a welcome breakfast for Hunter’s amazing new president, Ann Kirschner, at the Roosevelt House.

We spoke about world events effecting students, the diversity of the Hunter community, and how we can all work together for the betterment of our students.

President Biden made one of the strongest statements in support of Israel that an American President has ever made. The United States of America is standing strongly with Israel in this crisis. 🇮🇱

Freeing innocent hostages is not a matter for negotiation or moral equivalence. They cannot be equated to terrorists who face legal incarceration in Israel. Every innocent life matters. Let’s stand united for justice and humanity. 🇮🇱🇺🇸

Deeply distressed by the crisis in Israel. I condemn in the strongest terms Hamas’ war crimes against innocent civilians. Israel has an unequivocal right to defend itself. Standing firmly with our ally, Israel. 🇮🇱🇺🇸 ”

Latinas continue to make 52 cents to every dollar white non-hispanic men make. What a disgrace.

The Equal Rights Amendment would allow the enforcement of equal pay for equal work. Let’s get it done. Sign the ERA petition @ Sign4ERA.org now.

Diane Feinstein was a giant, pioneer, and great advocate for California. Fighting hard for gun safety and women’s equality, she blazed a trail which so many of us have followed.

Senator Feinstein was a thoughtful and kind woman who will be deeply missed.

We lost almost 3000 people on 9/11, but we are still seeing the prolonged effects of exposure to toxic fumes and more lives losts. I was honored to work on the 9/11 Health and Compensation plan which helps those suffering from long-term health problems.

One of my friends and former Deputy Mayor Carol Robles-Román passed away recently. Although it wasn’t her immediate cause of death, the health-effects of her work at Ground Zero followed her for the rest of her life. She was one of the many Americans who benefited from the plan.

We are still working to make sure the funds are there for those who are suffering. We must .

President Abraham Lincoln said that “Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.”

This let’s remember that. And remember to support our fellow Americans organizing for fair treatment and pay, like our actors and writers who are entering their FOURTH MONTH of strike.

Our country was not built with gold or silver, but with LABOR!
