Join Poets House for a weeklong summer intensive designed to sculpt students into confident writers, speakers, and publishers of poetry. Linktree in bio.
Monday 8/5 – Friday 8/9: 10am to 4pm
Saturday (performance) 8/10: 3pm to 6pm
Poets House Academy encompasses five days of workshops, classes, and wellness activities. The week culminates in a student reading on Saturday, to which students’ families and friends are invited. Teen writers will be guided by a roster of esteemed poets, leading workshops on spoken word and oration, the body as a poetic canvas, and navigating poetry as a profession. Throughout this week of writing and community-building, students will have a one-of-a-kind collection of poetry, chapbooks, and journals at their fingertips.
All are welcome; full and partial scholarships are available according to student need.

Q***r Joy Poetry Picnic: Celebrate Pride with Poets House! Join us outdoors for an afternoon of expression at our first Q***r Joy Poetry Picnic in Rockefeller Park (across the street from Poets House). We invite you to share our inspiration for uplifting q***r voices in a come-as-you-are poetry writing meetup that is free and open to all ages. There will be moments to write poetry, recite poetry, and enjoy the summer sun with new friends. Don’t forget to bring a blanket/seat for your lounging preference!

5/18: To mark the first Showcase Exhibit in five years and to welcome back our community, Poets House is hosting an open reading! This unique event is open to all poets who have work in the 2020 – 2021 Showcase exhibit. You may sign up to read by completing the form linked in our bio.
5/16: In this generative workshop with Brian Turner, we’ll focus on dreamscapes, poems of the underworld within, that state where language and image meld as story gives way to song. We’ll read and consider approaches to the poetry of labor, as well as the deep reservoir of love and loss that, perhaps, serves as the lifeblood of all verse. Linktree in bio.

Corral, author of Guillotine (Graywolf Press, 2020) and award-winning debut poet Benjamin Garcia, author of Thrown in the Throat (Milkweed Editions, 2020) come together to read and discuss the work they published during the pandemic. Tomorrow: Mei-mei Berssenbrugge, author of A Treatise on Stars (New Directions, 2020), is joined by Lara Mimosa Montes, author of Thresholes (Coffee House Press, 2020) for a reading and conversation about the pandemic’s impact on poetry and the challenges of publishing books during that time. The 28th Poets House Showcase exhibit—the first since the pandemic and major renovations—features books published in 2020 and 2021. The exhibition will be on view from April 6–May 31, during regular library hours, and will be accompanied by readings throughout April and May.
The only event of its kind, the Poets House Showcase is an admission-free exhibit featuring thousands of books of poetry published by hundreds of presses. Discover a panoramic view of nationwide poetic activity!
