A few weeks ago our chef/owner @evanhanczor met with Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern to take a walk through the @unsqgreenmarket and talk about healthy soil, regenerative agriculture, food access, and the role restaurants have to play in supporting all of those initiatives. Last Friday, much to our surprise, @repmcgovern gave Little Egg a shout-out on the floor of the House of Representatives! Who knew hash browns could get you a mention on the Hill?? We've always wanted to be a neighborhood restaurant that's casual and accessible, that shows that great ingredients can be a part of everyday eating, not just higher-priced meals. Breakfast and legislation can seem quite far apart, but both affect the way we eat, the way our food is grown, and who has access to it. Thanks to @nrdc_org and @beardfoundation for organizing the Chefs for Healthy Soil initiative we're a part of, and to the Greenmarket and farmers like @norwichmeadowsfarm and @lanisfarm for chatting with us and providing us with such beautiful, sustainability grown ingredients! 18 years to the day since Egg opened inside Sparky's hot dog shop, and two and a half years after COVID led us to close our Williamsburg doors, we're hatching Little Egg, a community breakfast and lunch restaurant at 657 Washington Avenue on the border of Crown Heights and Prospect Heights. We had the joy of hosting 2 groups of 1st graders from our local public school a couple of weeks ago. As part of their writing education, they were learning how to write reviews, and we became their test case. When they finished their reviews, they invited us to class to hear what they thought, and they gave us a bound book with all their (very polished!) reviews inside!
