Based on research conducted over 13 years, Dr. Ornish believes that heart disease can be halted or reversed without bypass surgery or angioplasty. By making comprehensive lifestyle changes, such as adopting a whole food, plant-based diet, engaging in regular exercise, and practicing stress-reducing techniques, such as yoga and meditation, patients may be able to halt or even reverse heart disease. Dr. Radwaner believes strongly in prevention and has focused his practice for over 25 years on preventing heart attacks and strokes. Each of our patients receives advanced cholesterol testing and heart imaging to detect cholesterol buildup in the coronary or carotid arteries. With this information, an individualized plan is established for each patient to prevent heart attacks, strokes and other vascular disease such as aneuryms. Heart attacks occur when the flow of blood in a coronary artery is suddenly blocked. Over many years there is often silent buildup of cholesterol in our coronary arteries, with the first symptom of its presence being a massive heart attack. A "widowmaker" is the name cardiologists give to these heart attacks in men in their 40s, 50s, and 60s which cause sudden death. In the US, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds, and the numbers are increasing due to the increasing incidence of obesity. With increased weight, the number of very dangerous small dense LDL cholesterol particles increases, increasing the risk of heart disease and often not detected on a standard cholesterol blood test. In our office, we perform advanced cholesterol testing and advanced imaging to prevent heart attacks and strokes. Prevention is the key.
But we can overcome this condition with the right knowledge and preventive care. Call today at 212-717-0666 to schedule a comprehensive cardiovascular evaluation.
