Today Marks The 47th Anniversary of Earth, Wind & Fire's 7th Studio Album "Spirit" Originally Released on
September 28, 1976.

Spirit is the seventh studio album by American band Earth, Wind & Fire, released on September 28, 1976, by Columbia Records.

The album rose to No. 2 on both the Billboard 200 and Top Soul Albums charts.

Spirit has also been certified Double Platinum in the US by the RIAA.

Spirit was also nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Album.

The album produced three hit singles "Getaway", "Saturday Nite" and "On Your Face".

"Getaway" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Soul Songs chart. The single also rose to No. 12 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Disco Action Top 30 charts.

"Saturday Nite" peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot Soul Songs chart and No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The song also reached No. 12 on Billboard's Disco Action Top 30 chart and No. 17 on the UK Pop Singles chart.

The song "On Your Face" was
released on April 6, 1977, Though the song was a fan favorite it failed to appear on any of Billboard's singles charts.

"On Your Face" was sampled by MC Hammer for his song "On Your Face" which contains a sample of Earth, Wind & Fire's 'On Your Face'.
His song appears on his album third studio album "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em"

The Rapper Queen Pen sampled "On Your Face" for her song "Party Ain't a Party". The song featured Markell Riley, Mr. Cheeks and Nutta Butta's. The song appears on her debut album "My Melody".

The band's long time collaborator Charles Stepney died in the midst of its recording sessions, Maurice White went on to mostly arrange and produce the album. The LP was entitled Spirit in dedication to Stepney.
