Congratulations to them on a great achievement. We're extremely proud of them. You'll see them out on field training starting next week.

We appreciate the public's help getting the person identified on the last post. Let's see if we can't get an identification on these two. Not great pictures, but if you can recognize either of them or if anything about them looks familiar, please give us a shout.

It was a great turnout at the Laurel House 5K today. NPD's own Officer Andrade took a second place medal for his age group. Congratulations to Officer Andrade and all of the medal winners!!

Today marks the end of national Police week. I have the names of two former colleagues whose names are inscribed on the national wall in DC that I keep in my office and wear on my wrist to remember and honor not only them, but the many others I've been honored to work with who have been shot or seriously hurt while serving and protecting. As you see our officers out and about, wave and say hi. Please don't underestimate the power that a word of encouragement can have for those still serving and protecting during the night, weekends, and on holidays.

Please be aware that the Village of Newark has been made aware that someone is calling people asking for their credit card information in order to prevent water shut off. This is a scam! Do not provide any personal information or credit card information if you receive one of these calls.

Today we welcomed two more great additions to our NPD team. Roberto Andrade and Kyle Foster took their oaths of office at a Newark Board meeting. We are so excited and can't wait for you both to complete your training and begin your careers serving and protecting the citizens of Newark.

In September 2022, family members reported Kevin Heise missing. After many investigative hours since then, we have not been able to locate Mr. Heise. So, we want to make another plea to the public because we know someone knows what happened to him. If anyone has information on the possible whereabouts of Kevin Heise, please contact us. 315.331.3701.

It takes a team and, often, the people on the other end of the phone and radio don't get the recognition they deserve. NPD appreciates our 911 folks!!

Just a heads-up to the Newark Community of a person going door-to-door asking to do odd jobs. It is a white male in his mid-late 20's, brown hair, medium build. He can be quite insistent and, if you give him money, he'll keep coming back. But, he may never do the work he is promising. If he comes to your door, we suggest you don't answer or engage with him at all.

We're only a week away from the Solar Eclipse. Please plan accordingly as traffic is expected to be extremely heavy. If you need gas, fill-up this week. Same for prescriptions, etc. The NPD will be out doing what we can to keep traffic flowing. But, plan on a lot of conjestion that day.

Ok Facebook friends. Help us spread the word. We're looking for a certified Police Officer who wants to join the mighty NPD.

Good words of advice

As we are within the path of totality on April 8, we expect high amounts of traffic throughout the county. Have a plan to get to your destination early if you must travel. Be aware that cellular capability may be reduced.

Due to the expected influx of visitors to Wayne County , traffic may take several hours to dissipate. Be sure to fill your gas tank early.

Remember that schools are closed!!

Last night at the Village Board meeting, I had the pleasure of ceremonially swearing in Officer Brandon Salerno as Sergeant Salerno. Sgt. Salerno was officially promoted on February 5th and has been working as the sergeant for the relief shift. Sgt. Salerno has been with the NPD since November 2009. He came to us via Clyde PD and then as a Deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and we're very glad we got him. He is a wealth of knowledge that will serve to help develop our officers. Congratulations Sergeant!!

It was nice that Assemblyman Manktelow stopped by for a visit. He delivered the proclamation made in the NY Assembly for National Law Enforcement Day, asked for insights on how things were going at NPD and how the State might be able to help, and saw the results of the great policework by Officers Jackson and Sweeney who made a great gun arrest earlier that day

We are sad to announce the passing of retired Police Chief Richard "Dick" Bogan. Chief Bogan served the citizens of Newark for 30 years with NPD and over a decade of those was as Chief. He had a great deal of accomplishments to his credit during his career. One of those was his instrumental part in organizing county wide drug investigations teams before that was really a thing in policing.
When he retired from NPD the Village of Lyons asked him to be their Chief of Police where he served until the dissolution of Lyons PD.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Just a reminder that there is no overnight parking during winter months for snow plowing operations. We haven't had much snow yet. But, you know we will before winter is over.
