We need a better understanding of rheumatic diseases. Why?
“If you are an oncologist, you can find cancer in tissue, or if you are a cardiologist, you can find structural complications in the heart,” Saag said. “In rheumatology, we are often challenged by a lack of histopathological diagnosis. In our diseases, it is often a constellation of symptoms and lab abnormalities that lead us to a diagnosis.”
“As a result, in rheumatology, there is a lot of uncertainty for extended periods of time. Patients may be either under- or over-diagnosed, or not diagnosed at all, or mischaracterized, or simply sent to a carousel of specialists. “ Dr. Kenneth Saag.

How to Diagnose Fibromyalgia!
The NFA has partnered with Quell Fibromyalgia to develop an easy-to-use fibromyalgia diagnostic criteria worksheet using the most up-to-date standards from the American College of Rheumatology. We’ll work to make this available to any healthcare providers interested in diagnosing and treating fibromyalgia. We believe with additional tools like this, we can help bring more visibility to the fibromyalgia community.
If you’ve struggled with getting diagnosed, feel free to print this worksheet and take it in to your healthcare provider for consideration.

Please share with us how do you use alternative ways of working, and devices that help you develop those alternatives around your life?
PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM FM and other chronic pain conditions are more easily by housekeeping, yard work, and driving, even the smallest of modifications can reduce fatigue.
Switching to half-gallon containers of milk or dragging the vacuum cleaner backwards, rather than pushing it, save energy and prevent strain, says Allison Green, an occupational therapist with the University of Michigan Health System. “People in chronic pain don’t have the luxury of pushing beyond their limits.”
Little Changes Can Make A Big Difference By Chris Cunningham Alternative ways of working, and devices that help you develop those alternatives, can have a double benefit. Today we want to share an article by Dr. David Katz, "Exercise: How A Little Goes A Long Way"
"Mechanistically, exercise is entirely dependent on action potentials, while its incredible benefits may be characterized as the potential of action to enhance our lives. Ironically, perhaps, the luminous potential of action to promote our health is in a very fundamental way the exact opposite of the action potentials from which it derives."

"It is hard to be patient when you’ve hurt so much for so long. But did you know that your impatience might actually be depriving you of much-needed symptom relief? I often hear the complaint, “I’ve tried everything and nothing works.” While it is doubtful that anyone has really tried “everything,” a more important question is: Are you giving what you try a fair shot?"
