Smart Planet's CEO Will Lorenzi interviewed by KTLA Los Angeles regarding California SB1167 bill that would force restaurants to use reusable tableware in all restaurants for in-store dining. That's quite a burden on quick-service restaurants.

Life cycle analysis of packaging shows that paper-based packaging is far more environmental than reusable tableware, IF the paper-based packaging gets recycled. Conventional paper cups are coated with polyethylene and very difficult to recycle. Smart Planet's reCUP is certified to be as easy to recycle as uncoated paper. Opinion | You’re probably recycling plastic wrong. And it’s not your fault.­­ The government is the reason recycling is a mess. It should take responsibility for fixing it.

Plastic shouldn't be downcycled, and especially not plastic coated paper. Paper can be recycled 7x, but when you combine plastic and paper into building materials, you've avoided paper recycling and that's not circular. Downcycling is not recycling.
