Our more than 225 dedicated and professional employees work to provide you with a safe community in which to live, work and play. We stand ready to respond to a call for assistance.

Our mission statement: The Newport News Sheriff's Office shall safely and securely provide appropriate supervision of all persons entrusted to the care of the Newport News City Jail; provide for safe and secure operations in the courts; and guarantee expedient and accurate service of civil and criminal warrants.

We show our commitment to the community by speaking at schools, attending career days, talking with seniors about safety issues and more. The NNSO also provides Project Lifesaver for those city residents who qualify. We have more than 70 adults and children on the program. Sheriff Morgan believes so strongly in this life-saving technology that he covers all costs for the clients. He doesn’t want money to be an issue for families who have loved ones living with cognitive disorders.
