Join us Thursday at 1:00pm ET as we talk with gastrointestinal oncologist Louise Connell, MB B*h BAO, BMedSc, of Memorial Sloan Kettering in a discussion about the latest updates in liver-directed therapies, or treatments for colorectal cancers that have spread to the liver.

The liver is the most common site of metastasis in patients with colorectal cancer, due to the blood supply that exists between the large intestine and the liver. Dr. Connell specializes in systemic chemotherapy, where the treatment circulates throughout the body, and regional chemotherapy, meaning the drug is delivered directly to the liver or abdomen.

The types of treatment we’ll discuss include:
- Ablation: a minimally invasive treatment that destroys liver tumors.
- Hepatic Arterial Infusion (HAI): a targeted chemotherapy that delivers high doses of drugs directly to liver tumors through the hepatic artery, the main blood vessel that supplies the liver.
- Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT): also known as radioembolization, is a form of treatment that delivers radiation directly to liver tumors by injecting tiny radioactive beads into the arteries that feed the tumor.
