This page is the public information page for the Later@ThePorch after school program that meets at The Porch - 724 N Main Street! Here you will find necessary links and information for our program - as well as some really helpful resources for our community and parenting 10-12 year olds!
A reminder as we head into August - and all the back to school season: we are taking the year off from the after school program.
A few really great drop in options still include The Rec Center and The Newton Public Library. Each of them has a few minimal requirements for parents, so you will need to make that plan in advance.
Clubhouse through the Rec Center is a paid program option, too!
Not an easy decision for us, but please make note. See the comments below for drop-in (free) options in our community, as well as daycare (fee based) options.
Gratitude post:
Thank you, Austin, for THREE great years directing later@ThePorch!!! We are sad to see you go, but thankful for the investment you made in the lives of our 5th and 6th grade students - and volunteers - over the past 3 years! Blessings on you and your family as you continue on to the next thing!
Thank you to LA and all the CRT - and Newton Car Show! Thank you for the donation, but most of all - thank you for seeing the opportunity to partner with us!!
This week is FILLED with the joy of knowing that our community sees the need and wants to partner with us in responding. Filled. And overflowing!
Major gratitude today for the immense generosity of the Asbury Park Foundation! So Shine was granted $15,000 for our initiatives at The Porch!
Thank you for the investment!!
Thank you to the Newton Car Show for choosing to support So Shine this year!!!
This year we have chosen to give back to So Shine Foundation and Heart to Heart Child Advocacy Center. Please join us as we support the amazing work these nonprofits do in our community.
Is your student missing a hoodie, jacket, water bottle, or something else?
Here is the current Lost & Found table.
Items will go to Et Cetra at the end of the week - so make sure your student checks the table Tuesday and Thursday.
We will continue with our Tuesday and Thursday schedule through the end of the school year.
We are so pleased with how well this schedule has been going. We have two solid volunteer teams that are providing lots of great opportunities for connection and belonging.
We know this is disappointing to some of our students and families. We do believe this is our best plan for success and sustainability of Later at the Porch.
BIG GRATITUDE to Chisholm Trail 8 for providing yummy movie theater pocorn for our students to enjoy during our December Christmas movies! This is a blessing of a small town and a tight knit community! Thank you!

We are so excited to host them and I would love to invite you to this wonderful event!
With that said, setup will take up the entire day so we will not be having the after school program that day!

I just want to drop this right here! Save the date! More details coming SOON!!!

A reminder for this week: We will only be meeting for Later at the Porch on Tuesday and Thursday for the remainder of the semester!
A reminder - starting next week
Also an FYI for families:
Norm’s Coffee Bar is NOT an option for hanging out on Monday, Wednesday , and Friday.
Important Update:
Effective September 26, Later at the Porch will operate ONLY on Tuesdays and Thursday for the rest of the semester. I know there will be plenty of questions, so please watch the video and I will answer any questions you may have about the change.
This is not something that we wanted to do, but something we have to do to ensure the best success for Later at the Porch going forward. These changes will guarantee more volunteers when the students are here, and a better environment for everyone attending.
Please message our page or contact Austin Lakey with questions.
A reminder of our second and last parent/guardian meeting this Tuesday the 22nd at 6:30 here at The Porch! If you have a student that plans to attend Later at the Porch at all this school year, please plan to attend!
Ready to meet some kiddos and kick off the year!
Tonight is our first Parent/Guardian meeting at 6:30!
We’ll go over what the year will look like, expectations, and have time for questions! If you have a student wanting to attend this year, please plan to attend either tonight or the 22nd!
This summer is FLYING by quickly and I am already getting excited for this coming school year! As before, we will have 2 separate parent/guardian meetings to discuss topics such as: Who we are, why we do what we do, and what parents and guardians of these 5th/6th graders can expect for the year.
Please make plans to attend one of the two meeting dates. If you cannot make one, arrangements will be made to meet with you before your student may attend regularly.
Keep checking back on this page for updates on events as we get closer to the '23-24 school year!!

Just a reminder of our volunteer meeting this evening at 6:30! Even if you are just curious about what it looks like to volunteer or be a part of the after school program, please come!
We could not do what we do without faithful volunteers! If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering (even just a single day a month), please plan to attend this meeting! Those who volunteered before please plan to attend as well.
It would do a lot even if you don't plan to volunteer, please share this post here on Facebook or to your friends personally! We are always searching even throughout the school year so keep us in mind!
Hello everyone! As we get amped up for the school year, we wanted to share our Amazon list with you all!

The facilitator is a familiar face after school. Manny volunteers on Thursdays with your students and is looking forward to connecting with parents during this 10 week class.
Please feel free to reach out to Manny with questions or to sign up for the fall class.
