Operation Smile honors Virginia Beach high school senior What truly makes Andrew unique is his love for the global non-profit organization, Operation Smile.

This morning, Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03) presented the Tom & Ann Hunnicutt Family YMCA with a check for $2,000,000 for infrastructure improvements to the YMCA. These funds are part of the $4.5 million in federal community project funds for Hampton Roads, which Congressman Scott secured in the FY 23 Omnibus Appropriations Act.

Adam said, "The Tom & Ann Hunnicutt Family YMCA has been serving the City of Newport News, VA community for over 50 years. Thanks to Congressman Scott’s support, this grant will help ensure we are around for another 50 years. At the Y, we prevent drowning, help kids succeed, prepare teens for life, and help people grow healthier in spirit, mind, and body, and these funds will help improve the infrastructure to deliver on our mission here in Newport News.”

Today over 400 students Norfolk State University received their college diplomas and Missy Elliott delivered the commencement speech while also receiving her honorary doctorate degree. As a surprise, she gifted the university a $20,000 check !
