At Wisdom River Lodge we promote and teach natural pathways to healing with an emphasis on indigenous philosophies and unconditional regard for all spirits in their quest for well-being, recognizing that we are spiritual beings on a human journey. Our healers offer the healing light and vibration of unconditional regard for your healing and growth. If you're hungry, lonely, tired, sick, ask The Lodge how we can help you find the bridge back to your self.
Reiki is the Light......Reiki practitioners use this light for your healing, whatever that may be. During this season of light, invite Reiki into your life. It will illuminate your world.
The first 10 people who respond "I am Light" will receive a free Reiki Healing card for themselves or to give to someone you love.
The Lodge will contact the first 10 via private message for your address to send you your Reiki Healing card--even if you're "overseas."
I cannot tell you
how the light comes.
What I know
is that it is more ancient
than imagining.
That it travels
across an astounding expanse
to reach us.
That it loves
searching out
what is hidden
what is lost
what is forgotten
or in peril
or in pain.
That it has a fondness
for the body
for finding its way
toward flesh
for tracing the edges
of form
for shining forth
through the eye,
the hand,
the heart.
I cannot tell you
how the light comes,
but that it does.
That it will.
That it works its way
into the deepest dark
that enfolds you,
though it may seem
long ages in coming
or arrive in a shape
you did not foresee.
And so
may we this day
turn ourselves toward it.
May we lift our faces
to let it find us.
May we bend our bodies
to follow the arc it makes.
May we open
and open more
and open still
to the blessed light
that comes.

Santa Claus was a shaman!
E. C. Krupp wrote in "Beyond the Blue Horizon":
If a cosmic tree points the way to heaven for us every Christmas, Santa Claus undertakes the magical flight of a shaman. He is sometimes said to be responsible for erecting the Christmas tree sky pole himself. Descending vertically down the chimney, Santa returns by the same route back to the roof. Our chimneys, like the cosmic axis, or axis mundi, carry him from one realm to another.
There must also be something magical about the sack he carries, for it can supply toys to all of the children in the world. That bag is like the sampo or magic mill that could grind out unlimited supplies of food, money, and salt and was associated with the World Axis. In addition, Santa Claus, like the gods and spirits, is immortal. His activity is focused on that critical night that was once the Winter Solstice.
GNAT:
spiritual meaning of the gnat. It is associated with being bothersome, buggy, nagging and just plain irritating. But the gnat is simply attracted to living sweetness. It find life and attaches to it and lays eggs. Then just hangs around to see the new life come from their eggs and to enjoy the sweet, warm living energy of the host. Gnats also hover over grass and summer weeds. Again they like warm sweet dew from these "living" plants.
So if you have gnat as a guide or totem, you may want to notice the warmth, sweetness and life force of that around you. Or....just be aware of your own. That may be the simple reason "gnat" is around BUGGING you and trying to get you to notice this in you and around you.

"Stillness, silence, solitude and darkness have long been pathways to wisdom, visions, dreams, and messages from the mystery. We see this in traditional rites of passage that involve spending time alone in nature for a time, in spiritual traditions that require periods of complete solitude, or practices that focus on silence or deep nature immersion. These experiences allow us to access longings, memories, intuitions, and messages that are inaccessible in everyday life."

Today I'm heading home to the East Coast, first on my own and then joined by my partner and kid. I'm so looking forward to seeing my family, spending some time alone, and welcoming the dark at the Bay of Fundy. Feels like a much needed exhale after a very busy fall.

If Christmas is hard,
If you’ve lost someone dear.
Just look in your heart,
And you’ll know they’re still here.
The star in the sky,
The light falling snow.
The robin outside,
It seems like they know.
If this is a time,
When you’re struggling through.
Just do what you can,
For what matters, is you.
There’s no need to be merry,
There’s no need to be bright.
Just do what you can,
It will all be alright.

Disclosure: I wrote this in 2020. But I read it again just now in 2022 and may as well have written it today, too. I think someone else might get that.
——-
Seconds after I took this picture, I went to help my little man with his side of the tree that he insisted on carrying inside by himself with his dad on the other end.
“No, Mommy!” he yelled. “I got this!”
He didn’t, in fact, “got this” ... and almost toppled sideways down the porch stairs. Without him seeing me, I reached over the top and gave him the slightest bit of relief of bearing the weight of the tree.
Enough that he didn’t fall over, but not too much that he noticed my assist. He then proudly marched his way through the house to the room in which the tree would stand.
I thought about his remark.
“No, I’ve got this.”
I’ve said it to so many people who have offered me help in the past.
“No, I’m fine I don’t need to talk.”
“No, I’m ok, I can handle it on my own.”
“No, it’s good, I’ll run to the store myself.”
And as a result running myself thin. Taking on too much stress. Bearing the heavy load on my own.
And it has always been the friends that have ignored my pride and showed up anyways in the not-so-obvious ways that made things a little lighter.
Dropping off no-reason leftovers.
Sending a card in the mail.
Texting an uplifting message.
Calling just to check in.
Taking garbage cans back to the side of the house.
There have been so many times when I should have ended up on the floor from the pride of doing it alone, that instead I stayed upright because of their gesture.
It matters.
And, friends, this year has been so heavy.
We are all exhausted for our own reasons.
Mentally, physically and emotionally.
If you don’t “got this” and need help — say so.
If you have an “I’ve got this” friend — show up anyways.
Everyone has been bearing a little extra weight, and everyone could use a little reminder than we don’t have to carry it alone.
Coyote’s medicine includes understanding that all things are sacred and that yet nothing is sacred, teaching us that only when all masks have fallen will we connect with the source, illumination, stealth, intelligence, singing humans into being, childhood trust in truth, teaching us how to raise our young, they bring rain, give one the ability to laugh at one’s own mistakes, placing the North Star, shape-shifting, teaching balance between risk and safety, trickster, devilment, cunning, wisdom, folly.
Amongst some native tribes, coyote is referred to as the trickster and there are many tales about the coyote. They are known as the great one and the foolish one – they don’t consciously try and trick us, rather they reflect back to us our own capacity for being clever and stupidity.
When we are being too serious about life, Coyote may appear to teach us to laugh at ourselves and life’s ironies. Be prepared for your sense of humour to arise in full force in line with what is happening around you and to you. They also remind us that whatever we do to others will be done to us. You get back what you give out…
The Coyote teaches how wisdom and folly go together. In others mistakes we see our own foolishness and can learn from their mistakes.
The coyote’s energy is linked to simplicity and trust, spurring renewed innocence and a childlike wisdom in the world. Coyote’s howl touches your soul, reminding you of your primal connections. People with this power animal adapt easily to new situations. They also usually have close families, especially when children are involved. Coyotes normally mate for life. They reside in the sides of hills or in underground dens where their family is pretty much safe. Coyote people will sometimes go to extremes to protect and nurture family members. Sharp cutting words that hurt another should be avoided. Energy bursts are common if this is your power animal, balanced action is necessary for overall well being. Coyote medicine people often put other peoples needs before their own – remember to give to yourself equally.
Although they prefer open grassland and thinly wooded brush, they are able to adapt to almost any environment. This means that they have been able to survive and flourish, growing in numbers – in spite of humans interference who for a long time have been trying to wipe out coyotes by trapping, shooting or poisoning them. Condors and other birds have instead almost become extinct from eating poisoned meat! When hunting prey, the coyotes don’t use speed, but rather they pounce and snap their jaws.
If coyote enters your life, you must look at something you have been avoiding. They are mirrors for the lessons we must learn so we are able to walk a good sacred road. The mirror will be held up incessantly until we finally get the picture.
Like coyote, we can either work with others to get what we want, or we can dive into a lake to catch a reflection. We can dispel troubles or invite them carelessly.
If you are stuck in a rut, call on coyote as an ally for negotiation. Or be grateful that he showed you a trap that you are caught in, or a way that you are fooling yourself. Powerful teachers when it comes to relationships coyotes are, as it is when we are in a relationship that we often fool ourselves the most. Coyote is not out to get us, but to teach us, whether we are willing students or not.

American White Egret by Bryan Maynes
Egret teaches to stand in the physical and spiritual worlds. He teaches healing of the emotions in order to bridge the heart and mind. This also correlates to grounding properties in order to receive and process spiritual and emotional insights for clarity. Egret helps look deeper into aspects of life, brings out innate wisdom and shows how to become self-reliant. Egret is sharp, direct and to the point. Determination, balance, follow your own path. He aids in seeing the bigger picture as a whole instead of the small parts. He will instill security and confidence in exploring the mind and emotions.
HEALTH TIP: Growing up, I used to despise asparagus. Maybe this was due to the mushy consistency that it has in most casseroles. But now asparagus is one of my favorite foods. Charlene makes a fantastic dish with asparagus, extra virgin olive oil, and sea salt. The kiddos always come back for seconds!
Asparagus contains large amounts of glutathione, a small protein composed of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. Glutathione has been called the “master antioxidant” and is one of the keys to a healthy immune system. Glutathione removes toxins from cells, protects against radiation, and is a potent cancer fighter! It also binds to fat-soluble toxins so it’s an excellent detoxifier.
Asparagus, next to orange juice, is regarded as the second best whole foods source of folic acid (also known as vitamin B9 or folate). Folic acid is known to lower the risk of heart disease, colon cancer, liver disease, and spina bifida. It also regulates cell division (cancer is the result of damaged cells dividing again and again) and prevents cellular mutations.
The carbohydrate called “inulin” in asparagus prevents the growth of bad gut bacteria and stimulates the growth of good gut bacteria.
Asparagus is also rich in vitamin C and vitamin A, both of which are cancer-blocking vitamins, as well as the mineral selenium. These three nutrients have been singled out in several studies as potent cancer fighters. Asparagus is also one of the richest sources of rutin (a bioflavonoid compound which strengthens capillary walls and increases circulation to the lower limbs by increasing the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood) and also contains chromium (a trace mineral that enhances the ability of insulin to transport glucose from the bloodstream into cells).
One more benefit of asparagus: It contains high levels of the amino acid asparagine, which serves as a natural diuretic. So…the next time you pass the asparagus in your supermarket produce section, stop and give those stems a chance!
Everything is energy. Think about that. You are a part of this energy and one with all no matter how different you think you are.
When we want to manifest something it's often initially due to a craving, a desire of some sort.
That hunger tends to get in the way and takes up too much energetic space by blocking the receptive flow.
Move into a soft deep space, a place of ease and allowance and then invite the manifestation to visually merge with your request in the here and now.
That which you are receptive to in a place of space and calm is more easily made manifested than that which you crave and hunger for.
