Here's what we recommend for kids in terms of Sun Safety:

1. Don't just check the temperature - check the UV index. If you’re not familiar with the UV index, it’s a scale from 1-11 that updates throughout the day to tell you how strong the sunburn-producing UV rays are at a particular place and time. You can check it on your phone’s weather app and try to avoid being outside between 10am and 2pm when the sun’s rays are the strongest. If you’re outside when the UV is high, seek shade when possible and take steps to protect the skin and eyes. There are so many cute kid's sunglasses that provide UV protection.

2. Cover up as much skin as you can—this reduces how much exposed skin you have to put sunscreen on. You might select child’s shoes that fully cover the feet so the tops don't get burned. Have children wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect the scalp, neck, ears, and face. Wear a UV-protective rash guard shirt over the swimsuit.

3. Get your child used to wearing sunscreen. Even though kids don't love having sunscreen rubbed on their face, it should be nonnegotiable just like going in a car seat. You might apply your own sunscreen in front of your children so they learn it’s just something we all do before going outside.
