On January 23, 2007, I walked into Bagel Boys for the first time as a customer. On May 1st, 2007, I walked in as the owner. And on November 10, 2021 (that’s 5,307 very early mornings later!) I walked in to help another family take over the store. I’ll be here until next Wednesday, Nov 24.

It was not easy at first (not saying it ever did get easy) but I lucked out and got some great people to work at the store. Thank you, Juan, Felix, Irene, Oti, Ana, Cynthia, Nancy, Gloria, Vianey, Luis, Rosa, Thony, and Rolando! We became good friends and some of you got to know them and their families as well.

THANK YOU to so many of you who I’ve gotten to know over the years. It was a pleasure to get to know you and your families and watch so many kids grow through the years as they walked through our doors.

THANK YOU to the veterans who came in each day for a good number of years and provided us with stories of their experiences and much laughter at the same time.

THERE ARE REPORTS OF SOME NORTH BRUNSWICK BUILDINGS BEING EVACUATED!

5:30 AM -- THE RAIN HAS STOPPED FOR NOW. WE ARE JUST NOW STARTING OUR DAY AT THE STORE. BAGELS WILL BE READY AT 6:30 AM.
BE CAREFUL DRIVING. THERE IS FLOODING IN THE AREA AND THE RAIN IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE MORNING. ADAMS LANE BY ROUTE 1 IS FLOODED.

Update to yesterday's news....

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes towards my employees. They are more than employees to me as we have been together for such a long time. Many of you have gotten to know them and their families as well.

They are all still shaken up, but it looks like they will all be well in short order. I visited with 2 of them today and while they will be out for another day or so they appeared in good spirits during my visit.

We will open tomorrow but on a limited basis as we will be somewhat short-staffed for a Sunday. We will not be running the grill so unfortunately no hot sandwiches, platters, etc.

Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day!

A number of my employees were injured in an automobile accident earlier this afternoon. Three were taken by ambulance to the hospital. We hope that their injuries are not serious, and they will be fine in short order.

I am waiting to get word on their conditions.

The store will not be open tomorrow, Saturday May 8.

To the family that was planning on coming in to get bagels to take down to their mom in Virginia tomorrow morning, I am truly sorry, and that goes as well to all who were planning to come in tomorrow for their orders.

Today is Saturday April 3, 2021. To avoid overcrowding at the store we may not be able to take phone calls at points throughout the day. We are sorry for this inconvenience!

Today is – a second National New Jersey Day since we live in the nation’s Bagel Capital.

Today we salute all the bagel shops up and down our state who have boiled and baked NJ’s reputation as the undisputed home of bagel greatness – one paper bag at a time.

Due to the current inclement weather and dangerous driving conditions, Bagel Boys will not open today.

Bagel Boys will reopen Monday morning!!
Thanks for all the nice comments here and the many more on the "Residents of North Brunswick" board and many voice messages on our phone. Very much appreciated.
Looking forward to seeing many of you starting Monday.

Update to yesterday's post:

Bagel Boys will be closed beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, and most likely, for the rest of the week.

We have been experiencing a staff shortage and it has been taking a toll on our remaining employees.. The planned change in hours and closing on Wednesdays was an attempt to balance the workload for our staff and also to allow them to spend time with and care for their families during this stressful period.

However, at the end of today, several staff indicated that they needed more time to take care of personal issues and wanted more time to be with their kids who are home from school. This is not feasible even with the changes proposed yesterday.

That being the case, we do not have enough people to keep the store open currently without sacrificing quality.

While the store is closed, the remaining staff and I will be taking care of some maintenance issues and otherwise sprucing up the store.

I ask for your understanding as we recharge, and look forward to reopening Bagel Boys as quickly as possible so we can serve the community once again.

There will be a temporary change of hours starting Monday, Nov 16.
We will open at our usual time of 5:30AM Monday-Friday and 6AM Saturday and Sunday. However, our closing time will be changing to 12PM each day.
In addition, we will be closed this Wednesday, Nov 18 and perhaps the following Wednesday as well.
These temporary changes will give us more time to clean/sanitize around the store as well as allow us to do maintenance on the store that we have not had a chance to get to since the COVID crisis began in early April.

As information, two of the young ladies that have been with me for years went to school to work in other fields and were just called to start their new careers. And two other ladies have other commitments that will limit their time working here.

One of the the things I appreciate most of the years I've been at Bagel Boys is getting to meet and becoming friends with so many of our customers. A great part is seeing how young people have grown up during the years their families have been coming here.

We will be CLOSED on Monday 4/13/2020.

The staff gets up very early, every day, and it HAS BEEN QUITE STRESSFUL working these past few weeks. We all need a small breather, and with the bad weather forecast for tomorrow, this seems a good time to take it.

I apologize for the short notice and hope to see many of you when we are back open (practicing Social Distancing, of course!)

Following up on my Sunday post, Bagel Boys will begin, effective this Saturday, April 4, to operate on the following schedule

Every day from 6 AM to 12 PM with the grill shutting down at 11:45 AM.
