Roots, mounds, trunk and all are ground up. Plant trees in the same location. Our one machine cuts 24" deep to make replanting easy.
BEFORE AND AFTER
I made quick work of this overgrown woods line and scrap piles. Using the Cat skid loader with mower attachment and grapple to pick through steel, rocks, and wood. All the debris was loaded into hoppers, ground leveled, and ready for seed. This property cleaned up real nice!
This is going to be quite the rewarding project!
This house had a brick flower πΌ πΈ planter which failed in the late 80's and was replaced with railroad ties. Since then the ties have failed, (and never looked good anyhow)The concrete sunk causing the drainage to be bad causing the water to run back to the foundation. The shrubs were overgrown and it's time for a refresh!
The plan here is to build a new sandstone planter, all new concrete, new drainage pipes, low voltage lighting, and a fresh landscape. This should come together over the next few weeks and I'll post the progress!
It's not out of the ordinary to have a 4 legged audience. Most commonly it's a Lab or Golden being nosy. Sometimes it's a horse or cow, or even a goat. So yesterday I had to do a double takeπ§ when I thought I saw a Tortoise watching π me! I found out it's the neighbors pet and has been around about 15 years and occasionally like to escape. At least he would be easy to catch once you see him!
π¨I'm pretty excited! π¨
I set a goal of 20 years running the stump grinder and decided once I meet that, I'm going to buy an excavator. βοΈI've always wanted one. In addition to removing tree stumps I am now taking on small excavating jobs. β
This type of work is nothing new to me. I ran my first backhoe at 8 years old and have been into it ever since. I've worked for 2 different excavating companies in the past. Digging foundations, sewers, downspouts, and even graves.π I've also done heavy dirt work like making roads and entire housing developments. I love doing dirt work.π
Here is a little job I did yesterday excavating a foundation wall so a mason could come in and rebuild it.
If I can help you out, please πcall me! 330-323-5798π
Where did time go?
It was 20 years ago when I was 23 years old and had a remodeling business mainly focused on bathrooms I hired a guy to remove 2 stumps at my house. This gave me the idea to add stump grinding to my business. My friends and family thought I was crazy. I was determined not to fail. That's when I bought my first stump grinder, a 31 horsepower gas machine and found an old homemade trailer to drag it around on.
I worked 7 days a week and long hours. I'd never hesitate to go out and work for 14-16 hours at a time no matter what day it was. I've worked on Memorial Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, July 4th. I had to make this work. I'd eat my lunch at 4 o clock and just keep going until I could not see anymore. This continued for years and years....
My social life was non-existent. I was a single guy who had nothing to hold me back. Working became an obsession. My friends quit coming around, mainly because I was never there. My family would be upset with me when I'd show up late, dirty or not at all to family events. I worked myself right into a Psychologist office to learn to find a balance in my life.
I finally learned to run my business and not let my business run me. I shrunk my work area and set some hours. I've worked at 15,000 + houses and created a wonderful customer base since I've started this. I've grown my business year after year and gained experience that could only be learned by being out there and doing the work.
As I come into my 20th year I'm proud and happy to still be out there doing what I do best. I'm happy to bring my experience and knowledge to help out each person who hires me to help with their project.
Looking back I would not change a thing. I did this! I took the risk and reaped the reward! Today I run a 110 hp diesel machine and have a much nicer truck to pull it with. I'm proud to still be out here serving my customers and Thank-you for your continued support!!
Besides "How much does it cost to grind a stump?" & "How expensive are those cutters?" one of the most often asked questions I get is "What do you do in the winter?"
Truth be told, Winter for me is short. I try to shut down around the beginning of January and normally back to work by end of February. After machine maintence is done I always enjoy a project.
Over the last month I built a backyard playhouse and wanted to share it. Check it out!

Here is a cool one. This Oak had almost a 13' long burl growing at the base. The trunk itself was 5 1/2 feet. This is an oddity that can be caused by stress, insects, weather, or bad cells in the tree. These can be desirable to woodworkers and make great table tops and gun stocks among other things. My customer tried to find someone who wanted it, but had no takers. I sliced a piece off for them to keep and made the rest mulch.

Just 4 kids checking out πa stump grinder π
My last job yesterday was awesome. These 3 boys were fascinated by the machine. Each one got to stand up on the trailer and asked what each switch did, I was happy to explain.
I love being able to take the time to show these kids the machine. I remember being a little kid and the excitement I would get when I saw a new machine and would get to check it out. Even as an adult sometimes it still happens π€£
Have a wonderful day everyone π
Fusicolla. Orange slime. Fungus. Call it what you want, but it's gross π
Common to see on fresh cut trees on these hot π₯ days. This is a fungus and yeast feeding on the sugar of the sap coming out of the tree. The fungus can also leak from cuts and it's harmless to the tree. If your stump looks like this hit us up to make it a pile of chips and dirt.
This was a rather large Dogwood π³ with a bonus (not really π)of cement in the base.

Here's the mother of all Maples!!! Thing was huge! 6 foot mound, 6 foot at the cut, and a diameter of 20'. That was breakfast yesterday π
Big mounded Maple with lots of surface roots vs. Me and my Vermeer 1152. Me 1, Maple 0.
This job came out cool, this property was perfectly flat and my OCD made sure that it would remain that way after stump removal.
Cheers to no rain today!
