This is how we decipher history. Our team in Conservation and Preservation Planning carefully collects paint samples from historic structures to analyze in our laboratory. Meadors uses cross-section paint microscopy to determine the original paint color of a building. Like a cake, the samples show each layer of paint throughout a building's life. More great work from our Estate Management + Maintenance Workshop. The team recently repaired damage at First Scots Presbyterian Church, which included rebuilding the circular window facing Meeting Street on the left tower and repairing stucco. They also repaired several other windows and replaced stained glass before painting. Just one way Meadors, Inc. manages and maintains our clients’ properties.

Window restoration is one area of expertise (among many) from our team in preservation and restoration. For Sal Elefante, restoring historic windows is an art. “It’s enjoyable,” Sal said. “Revamping pieces of history and keeping the original aesthetics.” He’s worked at it for years. He spent hours glazing these windows in our finishing shop. The process encapsulates and protects the glass when the wood around it expands and contracts. The malleability of the putty allows for just the right amount of movement without compromising functionality or quality. He also brushed the windows to remove oils left behind from the glazing process and will let the glaze firm up for about two weeks before painting. Brush in hand, historic windows as his canvas. “This is the kind of project that Meadors loves to do.” Preparation of the centuries-old Taveau Church for renovation continues. For nearly 30 years, Filmore Wilson has worked helped lead Meadors Conservation and Preservation efforts. Saving buildings like Taveau Church is “what we do”, he said. We’ve finished the initial round of stabilization to elevate the structure. Next it will be temporarily raised six feet up to build a new foundation, and then sills will be installed before the church is set back down onto its new foundation. Our six workshops collaborate across multiple areas of expertise every day. That includes design services and interior design, who worked with each of our other workshops recently to create a custom fireplace mantle in a historic Charleston home. Interior Design crafted the plans for the mantle piece. Design services then ground custom knives to ensure wood was cut to the perfect specifications before handing it off to the millwork shop and ultimately the construction crew. Taveau Church in Moncks Corner merged with St. Luke's United Methodist in the 70's to eventually become Cordesville United Methodist. Cynthia Gibbs says the merger helped her develop life-long relationships with legacy members of Taveau Church. It's why she's working to see it restored. Full story coming soon. The cap has arrived to 60 Meeting Street in downtown Charleston. We did a test fit and will plan final install next week. Shout out to our partners @heatherandlittle and to the @meadorsinc team on their excellent work restoring this roof. This sunroom renovation is one of our favorite interior design projects. We replaced existing windows and doors with a single lift and slide unit that creates a seamless indoor / outdoor experience. We integrated lighting into the pyramid skylight to create an airy feeling at night. Water-resistant Eames Barcelona Chairs add a sophisticated and practical solution to this space.
