The Radiology team at MUSC Children’s Health provides pediatric imaging expertise to our providers and private physicians across the state.

Since imaging plays an integral role in the high quality care of children, we work closely with our referring physicians to optimize diagnosis and treatment through safe, timely, and appropriate imaging. As pediatric subspecialists, we never lose sight of the unique needs of the children and parents we serve.

MUSC's Emergency Management team, MUSC, and MUSC Health leadership teams continue to carefully monitor the path and potential impacts of Tropical Storm Debby.

All ambulatory facilities in the Charleston area will be closed on Wednesday, August 7. Appointments will be conducted virtually, if possible, or rescheduled. Please check your MyChart for updates on currently scheduled appointments.

Former Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen hosted the third annual HEARTest Yard Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday at Kiawah Island. Proceeds from the tournament provide support to pediatric cardiology patients and their families at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital - the fourth in the nation Pediatric Heart Center, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

⁠⁠Greg and his wife, Kara, started the HEARTest Yard from their experience with their son, TJ. He was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and underwent a full heart transplant in 2021.

Eliza Cate Volousky, affectionately called Pickle, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just 4 years old.

“If he did not have any blood donors out there that give regularly, he likely wouldn’t be here today.”

Talon Adkins was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia last fall – a disease where bone marrow does not make enough blood cells for the body. Since November, Talon has had 15 blood transfusions and 50 platelet transfusions.

During a nationwide blood shortage, Talon is just one person who could see a dangerous impact if this continues.

Research from the World Health Organization shows that Kangaroo Care, or skin-to-skin care, significantly improves a premature or low-birthweight baby’s chances of survival, saving up to 150,000 lives a year.

When baby Eli was born on March 8, he weighed 1 pound, 11 ounces. Mom, Maggie, visits Eli at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital every day with her husband, and one of them participates in the practice daily to help Eli thrive.

Kangaroo Care, or skin-to-skin care, is an evidence-based care strategy that helps babies heal and grow. ⁠This seemingly simple practice has a significant developmental impact on babies in ways such as heart rate stabilization, temperature regulation, breathing control and sensory stimulation.⁠

Did you know that parents can also benefit from this practice?⁠ In addition to bonding with baby, skin-to-skin care can help decrease stress and even help increase the amount of breast milk produced.
