Tonight’s the night Fishies!! We’re so excited to see you all!
We would like to take a minute to introduce ourselves before our meeting tonight. Our names are Tristan and Sydney and we are here with some brand-new friends (but you’ll have to join us later to meet them!) We are the Big Tunas of Fishbowl and 20 Cent Fiction and will be your go-to people for all things Fishbowl!

The theme for "Firsts!" and our meeting will start at 7:30. Here's the link to join!

Welcome back Fishies!! I hope you are all ready for another year here at UMass Dartmouth. We are longing to see some familiar faces and so excited to meet some new ones!
For those who don’t know, Fishbowl is an open-mic storytelling club; all are welcome and encouraged to participate by dropping their name into the fishbowl to share their story. To make it more fun, each meeting is given a theme, of which can be interpreted however you wish. If you’re not a big talker or don’t have a story, just come listen and hang out with us! We don’t bite, I promise!
This year we are very excited to announce that Fishbowl is now a subsection of our incredible theatre group, 20 Cent Fiction! We hope that this partnership will encourage everyone to get more involved on campus! Unfortunately, as of now, we are stuck with the Zoombowl format in order to maintain safety and social distancing, but this way everyone at home can continue to participate in our absurdities!
Meetings this semester will take place on Wednesdays from 7:30 – 9:00, beginning next Wednesday, September 9th over zoom. The theme for this meeting will be Firsts! First kiss, first job, first time getting struck by lightning, you name it! Be as creative as you wish! We hope to see you all there and be sure to tell your friends! (Zoom link will be sent out within the next week.)

“Oh, Downtime!”

We have a huge announcement! Fishbowl is now a subsidiary of 20 Cent Fiction Productions!

Founded in 1994, 20 Cent Fiction has been the premiere alternative theatre production of UMass Dartmouth and the greater Fall River area! Their show resume includes Saucy Jack & the Space Vixens, Romeo & Julius, Heathers, Macbeth, Cabaret, and, of course, the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Fishbowl and 20 Cent Fiction have been associated with each other since Fishbowl’s inception in 2017, as the two organizations have shared many members, collaborated for events, and have supported each others’ endeavors! It only seemed fit for Fishbowl to be under the 20 Cent Fiction umbrella.

Starting next academic year, all Fishbowl operations will be run by 20 Cent Fiction! We here at Fishbowl have entrusted the executive board and members of 20 Cent Fiction to uphold our goal of providing a space for stories and safety, and to better our goals and influence in the future! We’d like to thank 20 Cent Fiction’s 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 boards for allowing us into your family, and for providing a chance for Fishbowl to grow even bigger than before!

Don’t worry, this page will still remain active with Fishbowl posts! However, go follow if you haven’t already!

Thank you Fishbowl members, old and new, for all of your support in our independent years! Thank you 20 Cent for allowing us to grow beyond what we thought was possible! The thought of this all makes us shiver with antici-

🐠👄

Hello fishes!

Tonight we will be holding a special Fishbowl meeting on Zoom starting at 7:30pm! This is going to be a completely optional meeting for everyone, as we are just going to hang out, talk to each other, and tell stories! No topics, no bowl. Just tell us anything that's on your mind! We have two scheduled calls due to the limitations of Zoom, both of which are linked here!

First Call:
https://zoom.us/j/99191720359

Second Call:
https://zoom.us/j/97354312511

We will start in the First Call until the 40-minute timer is up, and then go into the Second Call! All are welcome to hop in and out as they'd like, and just hang out!

We hope to see you tonite 🐠

04/11/2020

So with the response to our last post, Fishbowl will be hosting a Zoom call this Wednesday, April 15th at 7pm! All are welcome to come and hang with us for as long as they'd like, and even tell a story if you want! No topic, we just want to hear your wonderful stories!

Due to the limitations of Zoom call, we are only allowed a forty-minute call, so we will break the meeting into two separate calls depending on attendance! The links to the call will be set up Wednesday morning! We hope to see you there!

04/09/2020

Hello fishes!

We hope that this post finds you well and safe, and that you are staying healthy and washing your fins!

We miss all of your faces, truly! The energy of Fishbowl was something that we all looked forward to every week!

So, we have an idea to somwhat fill that void: would anyone be interested in joining a Fishbowl Zoom call? We’d have a big hangout party, and allow people to tell any stories that they want! A less formal, more casual meeting.

If interested, comment a fish emoji 🐠

It is with great pain that, because UMass Dartmouth has decided to have all in-person classes be taught online for the remainder of the semester, and the fact that all students are required to move out of their dorms, Fishbowl is announcing its closure for this semester. COVID-19 has cautiously caused many schools throughout the area to not allow students on campus for fear of contracting the virus, and thus many clubs and organizations have had to cancel events. We here at Fishbowl are following suit in these steps to ensure the safety of our members.

Because of this decision, all Fishbowl meetings and events, including Aquarium, are canceled effective immediately. We understand that Fishbowl has been a place for people to be safe and feel safe, and we love that we can be that for people. The safest thing we can do is practice social distancing - talk to friends, engage with one another, and be there for each other, from a distance.

We’d like to thank all of you that took time out of your lives to come to a meeting and hang out with us, even if just for a night. We heard wonderful stories from wonderful people this year, and we have you all to thank for that. This is not the end of Fishbowl by any means. In the coming weeks/months, updates will be posted here and on Facebook on the happenings of Fishbowl.

Until then, share your stories with everyone. Be vulnerable with each other. Talk to one another. Keep swimming. 🐠

03/11/2020

Hey guys, obviously due to the circumstances at hand we will have no meeting next week, aquarium auditions are being reassessed, and please be safe with your loved ones! More updates will come.

02/27/2020

Hey fishes! Are you interested in running for e-board for Fishbowl? We’ll be handing out applications tonight up until next week’s meeting on March 4th, when we’ll be voting for the 2020-2021 e-board! Positions open are: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary! If you’re interested in any of these positions, message us and we’ll give you more information! We’ll even meet up and hand you an application! 🐟🐠

01/22/2020

Happy 2020, Fishbowl!! We hope the new decade is treating you well, and that winter break rejuvenated your energy!! Some housekeeping to update you on Fishbowl’s happenings!

- First meeting of the new semester/year/decade is NEXT Wednesday, January 29th at 7pm! No topic, it’s a Freebowl!
- We will be planning several special events such as collaborating with other organizations, holiday events, etc.
- Spring semester means our showcase event Aquarium! More details about that in the coming weeks!
- We will soon be holding elections soon for the 2020-2021 academic year! Contact an e-board member if you’re interested!

Fishes!! We have missed you all so so much! We hope that your summer was relaxing, wonderful, extraordinary, and many other adjectives! Just a quick check-up for you for this upcoming year. Once again, Fishbowl will be meeting Wednesdays at 7:30pm at the Dive in Maple Ridge starting September 11th, the day of the Corsair Fair! We'll have a table at the fair the entire time, so come say hi to us and help us convince some new guppies to come to one of our meetings!

Speak of meetings, our first topic will be Firsts! Have any great "firsts"? Your first kiss? Your first car? Your first first comment on YouTube?? We wanna hear them! We are excited to see all of you lovely fish faces in two weeks. Enjoy the last week of summer, and we will see you all soon 🐠

06/15/2019

It's that time of the year where we take a break until the fall semester. It's also the time of the year where we say thank you, fishes. This year has been a big year for Fishbowl. With the rebirth of the space now known as the Dive, the first Fishbones and Lovebowl events, our second annual Aquarium, and so on and so on, we have had to adapt to a lot of changes, and we could not have done that without you. All 100+ of you that like this page and/or the Instagram page, we thank you. Whether you attended one meeting, every meeting, or some number in-between, thank you for your time. Whether you told a story every time, told a few, or just go to listen to the stories told, we are thankful for you and your courageous spirit. It still blows our mind that not only is this club still existing, but that we have a following as big as this. And like we always say, we are not done growing.

Have a lovely summer, fishes. Catch some rays, catch some fish (throw them back, please). We will see you all in the fall. ❤️🐠🐟

Aquarium 2019 04/11/2019

From all of us at Fishbowl, we thank you for making the second-annual Aquarium a huge success! We had so many people come out and hear our performers tell their stories, and we hoped you were one of them! Thank you to the performers for giving it your all and absolutely killing it on stage! Enjoy these lovely photos of our performers telling their stories, taken by Promotions-Manager Jordan Vongsithi! Aquarium II is in the history books, and we already cannot wait for the next one!
