Lil Readers
Lil’ Readers provides small group academic support in reading & math to grades PreK-12th.
Our preschoolers are growing so much in their language development! 🤩
After we review our letter sounds, we complete a sound sort. Students receive small cut pictures of objects and have to sort the pictures based on the beginning sound.
This increases:
- vocabulary
- communication skills
- decoding & blending skills
- critical thinking & problem solving skills
We’re closed today for staff development but here are two Trunk or Treat events held by our partnered churches New Hope Baptist Church and Longley Baptist Church
Patterns are present everywhere in our daily lives!
Our preschool boys have mastered AB patterns!
Learning AB patterns help students develop skills for later mathematical thinking and reasoning, including:
- making predictions
- forming logical connections
- understanding mathematical relationships
- developing algebraic thinking
Our preschool boys used their number identification skills to complete a Halloween math puzzle. 🔢
Thanks to our partnership with North Little Rock Public Library System, our students were engaged in STEAM activities all summer!
Check out the Shrinky D**k art they created!
Did you know that research shows that 9th-grade reading comprehension scores can be directly linked to how well the child was able to decode in first grade? 🤯

We want to shoutout our Lil Reader, Nova!
She's been with us for a year now, beginning in our Kindergarten Prep course.
Kindergarten has started off so well for her- socially and academically!
Nova was chosen as a Super Falcon by her teacher for her character!
She also scored in the 86th percentile in reading and 91st in math on the NWEA test!
Go Nova! 🥳🥳🥳
It's voting season! ✅
Be sure to take your babies to the poll with you!
Over the summer, we taught our students about voting and voter rights with the assistance of the Pulaski County Circuit and County Clerk and the Pulaski County Election Commission.
The Pulaski County Election Commission and the Pulaski County Circuit and County Clerk gave a voting demonstration to the students. The little voters learned how to register, vote on a paper ballot, and use the real voting machines!
This Lil Reader was so excited about reading that he had to demonstrate it for his big friend!
His big friend kept asking his age because his reading was impressive! 💫

This past summer, our Kindergarten Prep students learned about life cycles and were able to plant lima beans.
This fall, we will be planting lettuce, spinach, and cabbage!
In 2023, it was found that 54% of Arkansas’ 3rd graders were meeting or exceeding grade level expectations in math.
However, there was a significant gap among different groups of students.
Specifically, only 18% of African American students reached this benchmark.
Kids who struggle with mathematical concepts, often have a poor number sense.
At Lil Readers, we use a hands on approach as we teach number sense. Our pre-K-1st grade students love exploring numbers!
One unique part of our structure is our small group sessions with varied ages.
These two began working with us as preschoolers about a year ago.
Today, one is in Kindergarten and the other is in pre-K 4. Both of them are above a Kindergarten level in reading and math!
Now that they are fluent in their letter sounds, decoding, and encoding, we are strengthening their reading fluency and comprehension.

Mixing ages with learning has so many benefits!
Kalayia brought in a book from school and was so excited to read it. Her little friend, Denim, was so excited to listen to her read!
It was such a beautiful moment!
We’re so proud of this Lil Reader!
As a Kindergarten student, she can already read 40 words per minute! 🤩
She is also one of three students in her class who can already read! That's something to brag about!
