Kindergarten scholars enjoyed touring the 5th grade Volume Zoo. Fifth graders did a zoo counting to 120 activity with their buddies and taught them all about the animals they created.

5th grade scholars created zoo animals out of rectangular prisms. They measured the length, width and volume of each prism and calculated the volume. They wrapped each box and assembled an animal of their choice. They researched their animal and created a slide presentation with important facts. They also brainstormed ideas for an item to sell in the zoo gift shop, came up with a reasonable price point and made a flyer advertisement for their item.

Once this was all complete, they were ready for a day at the zoo. Each student was given a budget, checks and a check register. They had to write checks for admission to the zoo, an excursion, lunch, a snack, items from the gift shop and a charitable donation and balance their check books accordingly. Mr. Coccarelli and Mrs. A enjoyed a trip to The Volume Zoo!

Today our Eastplain Student Council led a Coin War Assembly. At the assembly the student council members taught about a local charity, Vinny’s Army, that was selected as the recipient of our coin war donation!

I am excited to announce that we raised and donated $1,512.49 to Vinny’s Army to help support the amazing work that Vinny and the Cusamano family are doing!

Congratulations to the 3rd grade, who won the coin war and donated the most coins!

Thank you to Mrs. Antonik and Mrs. Gulino for their hard-work and dedication to the Eastplain Student Council for organizing the Coin War and the assembly.
