Getting started with fitness is tough. So much to learn and creating a routine can be totally daunting.
My 400 pound body was embarrassed to go the gym and I didn't know what to do.
I started with at home workouts in my living room with a pair of weights. And it propelled me forward into being able to do more, move better and start a journey to health and fitness.

Keep It Simple: RCP Diet
Females:
Real Food - Nothing Processed/Packaged
Calories - 10-12 calories per pound of current weight *min 1,200
Protein - .8- 1.0 gram per pound of goal weight *min 80 grams
Example: 165 pound woman intakes 1,650 - 1,980 calories per day maximum while ensuring she eats 132-165 grams of protein in the process.
Males:
Real Food - Nothing Processed/Packaged
Calories - 12-14 calories per pound of current weight *min 1,400
Protein - 1.0- 1.2 gram per pound of goal weight *min 100 grams
Example: 165 pound man intakes 1,980 - 2,310 calories per day maximum while ensuring he eats 165-198 grams of protein in the process.
All food eaten is real, unprocessed food. Carbs and fat are irrelevant and will fall into line if calories are under the max while protein is in the range.
The number one question I get is HOW on earth can I get all that protein in? That's IMPOSSIBLE!
Nope. It does take intention. Here is a sample of high protein REAL Food:
1/3 pound ground beef: 25 grams
1 cup cottage cheese: 23 grams
4 eggs: 25 grams
6 oz salmon: 32 grams
6 oz chicken thigh: 33 grams
1 cup Greek yogurt: 21 grams
^^^^That's 161 grams of protein and just 1,075 calories.
If you focus on protein plus unlimited veggies you'll be full all day and stop craving junk food and avoid that afternoon slump.
Pescatarian? Sub out the chicken and beef for white fish, tofu, more salmon or seafood.

I don't eat out often but this week I have three dinners out.
Strategies for eating out while sticking to a healthy nutrition plan?
Check the menu before going.
Remember restaurants will exist always. This is not rare.
Marketing departments are paid a LOT of money to figure out how to get you to buy:
1) the cheapest food with the highest price tag.
2) larger portions than you need
3) add-ons like drinks, apps and desserts
The salad is rarely the best option on any menu. Full of extra calories and non-nutritious toppers, you can usually get a better value and more nutritional content with salmon, steak, a bunless burger or any other protein.
When in doubt get protein and veg and enjoy the ambience, people and being waited on.
Don't lose your mind. It's just food.

I went to Do-Rite Donuts in Chicago yesterday. The sign said, “Try our soft, hot, crunchy cinnamon crunch old fashioned donut! Warm and decadent and delicious. Covered in warm icing and crunchy cinnamon strudel pieces." The saleslady said it was the must-try. So I did try it.
The sign compelled me. The saleslady compelled me. My lizard brain compelled me. All with the same idea - this is delicious and enjoyable and not to be missed. It's my BIRTHDAY, I MUST enjoy something sweet.
What if I, having now tried this donut, were to write a truthful advertisement for this donut?
My ad would say:
“Try our soft, hot, crunchy cinnamon crunch old fashioned donut! It is delightful! You will enjoy the fun and flavor and bask in the dopamine high of it for 18 minutes. Then, you will feel full, bloated, fatigued and find a lack of interest in your previously planned adventures. You will happily take a nap and wake up groggy and looking for something to energize you to get moving again. You will likely just want to binge on more junk food until you start over tomorrow with a clean slate. Come on in and get this circle of delicious misery today.”
This is why I argue when people tell me I need to enjoy life and not be so strict with sugar. This is why I rarely eat donuts, the previous object of my obsession. I am more and more aware of and I remember with more detail the actual truth of the matter. I will eat donuts again, I am sure, but it's rarer and rarer as I am less interested in losing how good I feel normally, once I have that kind of sugar in my body.
This is a helpful strategy to overcome sugar fixation, binge-eating and addiction to the idea that sweets are somehow a must for living a full life. This strategy has helped me significantly over the past year as I have reduced my sugar intake. Giving up sugar and donuts and treats is not actually missing out. Sure, I don't taste the flavor. But I also don't taste the fatigue or fog or lack of energy either.
All foods have a side-car with passengers that help or hinder you.
Sugar comes with lethargy and fatigue.
Real, healthy food comes with energy and vitality.
