Brady Probst, tight end for Illinois State, in to pick up his new banjo that was built to fit his hands. Good luck this year and keep picking between plays. Disclaimer: I think he was on the tips of his toes in the picture.
I'm always glad to hear when a new player has emerged to join the rest of us music junkies. Especially one I've know since he was waist high. Build #3, and only ask was for a 5 string, open back. All mahogany, Brazilian rosewood headstock overlay, heal overlay and fretboard. Solid tone hoop instead of full tone ring. Finished with 11 coats of nitro laquer. Thicker neck than most but the owner is a big, big man. Matter of fact, he's the tight end at Illinois State so hands like his could snap most banjo necks just gripping it. Oh, and thats a football inlaid in the headstock.
Looking for someone who can weld brass with as little burnout of the nickel finish as possible. I'm not a welder, and maybe it's not possible but I'm asking.
Had a surprise visit from both these gentlemen last night, Tracy Thompson and Ron Patton. Glad to see and hear them both. Great music from everyone, Jerry, Libby, Al, Ron, Maurice, Susan, Don, John, Margie and special visit from Mike V. and his wife. What talent!
Thinning a banjo neck on a several thousand dollar Sullivan Presentation. Before and after.
Many years ago, this bass was found covered in white paint, in a yard sale. Hiding lots of scars, it was stripped and played for years. What turned out to be a jackpot bass, this early 1900 John Juzek carved bass is a true cannon. Just finished last week, it accompanied the open jam in the store this past Saturday night.
Previous top repair was glued uneven and filled with wood glue and never cleated. The crack on the far right was new. The old crack had to be opened back up to be fixed correctly.
Nashville Vintage & Repair will be closed on Monday July 8th & Tuesday July 9th. The phone will be unavailable as well. Please share!
Thank you!!!
Long distance drive home for a few last night, but it didn't slow them down. Columbus, Vevay, Seymour, Shelbyville, Pleasant, Indiana and someplace over on the Illinois state line. Great group of pickers last night.
For lessons, send Franny a message.
Some fantastic music being made last night. So much talent right here in downtown North Vernon. For several months now, we have come to know Ben & Tina Hamman who've been regulars on Saturday night. Sad to see them going back to West Virginia but we hope they'll visit often. Such a great couple with so much talent. Great to see our friend John Wise and Captain Ron pop in as well.
If you so choose, I'm located at 39E Walnut st, downtown North Vernon. I'll be seeing ya!
