Soulful Fine Art Portraiture Northampton, MA Your experience will be one of a kind. And this is what happens, every time.
There is a particular way that love moves through a person, and it varies whether it's being given or received. This is both true and different for everyone, and so no session is like any other. All we can know at the beginning is that we are there for the same purpose: to experience something genuine and create something meaningful. To help with this, you’ll get guidance, inspiration, and useful
What a precious, gorgeous boy young Boston is! His hair, his eyes, his freckles are to die for, but it's the sweetness of his heart that truly melts you.
What I look to invite most in portraits is an experience of beauty, strength, and power. I often say that none of these should suffer because of the other. As a child, to see all of those things in yourself is incredibly empowering. As an artist, to hear a child say, "I love how I look!!" is deeply gratifying. My hope is that every day Maia sees her portraits, she remembers how strong and confident and beautiful she felt that day, and that this feeling is hers to have always.
I also just so happened to get two dozen gorgeous red roses in my weekly flower delivery and Maia's favorite color is red!
And, on top of a completely magical session, Maia's father left me one of the loveliest reviews I've ever had the pleasure to read. Thank you so much Shaun and Orlene, photographing your daughter was an honor and a pleasure.
"First and foremost, I would like to thank Sarah for the beautiful experience my wife, daughter and I had within this venture. From the beginning of this process, Sarah and her assistant, Jill, were highly organized, responsive, and attentive to detail. The studio itself contained an array of her works on the walls, which ranged in size and aesthetic. Furthermore, it was clean and cozy, complete with air purification and masks.
*For any prospective parents considering Sarah to photograph their child/children, know that she is extremely talented, warm, and approachable. Our daughter, prior to driving out, was anxious and apprehensive about the process. However, within mere moments of interacting with us and her, she felt comfortable, at ease, and eager to begin. During the time Sarah talked with our daughter, she showed a genuine interest in learning both how she saw herself and how she wanted the portrait to portray her.
We were given the opportunity to peek in on the process, but elected to not, to minimize distraction. From the seating area, we could overhear playful banter, positive interactions between them, and an overall sense of encouragement and enjoyment. As a quick check-in, Sarah stepped out and showed my wife and I one of the photos, which was absolutely captivating. During the drive home, our daughter couldn't stop talking about the experience, and it was evident that she felt empowered.
The post-shoot process was organized, professional, and well done. We met over Zoom where she presented a slideshow from which we selected our favorite(s) photos. She presented how different sizes work within our space, and discussed options with regard to size, impact, and budget. In terms of the financials, Sarah extended various payment options and plans, she was flexible, and at no point did we feel pressured. She was personable, understanding, and genuinely willing to work with us. Thank you, Sarah, and we'll be reaching out about those couples' portraits we want!"
Well gosh. I love what I get to do for kids, and getting emails like this makes it even sweeter! ❤️
Sisters.
The incomparable Izmari...
Mom said, "I just want her to see what I see. A beautiful girl."
When we showed Erin her portraits, her smile lit up the whole room...
A confident, direct gaze is so very beautiful, and there is nothing I love more than seeing a child love what she sees in herself 😍
I mean, COME ON. These two were positively mesmerizing!
Marva, 4
Demetrious, 9
Hannah, 6 and Teagan, 4
My favorite thing is to help a child see the beauty of who they are, and how beautiful their sibling relationship is!
Oh these beautiful eyeballs... I could gaze into them all day 😍
Abby, 6
Liam, 4
Sil. They/them, more masculine than feminine, an old soul, and already a superstar at 11 years old. Sil, what an honor it was to celebrate all the beautifully fabulous parts of you!
Paloma, age 10. A magical spirit like no other.
Imagine being her age and doubting your beauty and magical presence... and then being able to see it clearly forever and always...
Imagine being able to see your features clearly, with no makeup, no forced expression, just your own steady direct gaze...
Imagine being her age and loving what you see, no matter what anyone else might say.
It was an honor and a privilege to photograph you Paloma. 😍
Hannah, 15... Soccer player, skier, and the kindest, most thoughtful young woman you would ever hope to meet.
Tessa, 12... Gymnast, skier, passionately into fashion, full of spunkiness and already in charge of the world.
Both so very beautiful inside and out!
Such beauty and strength, sweetness and charm with these two! And how much they love each other just makes me melt 🥰
Goddess.
Pure and simple.
Jada, age 12...
Kalila, 8 years old and a Queen in the making...
check out her instagram at instagram.com/fancifulandfree 😃
Each and every child I see shows me something magical. The essence of who they are shows itself in the still points, the moments in between... Chloe, a mere 5 years old, has the presence of an old soul who knows her own mind and is happy to tell you about it :)
Greta... soon to be 13, already so full of such beautiful grace and strength and depth.
I first photographed this superstar as a wee 9 day old infant. To see who she has become as a 5 1/2 year old takes my breath away.
Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing fathers! May we know them, may we raise them ❤️
Hi everyone, how is everybody doing? I don’t know about you, but I could sure use a change of scenery! But since THAT’S not happening, how about an online photography class for kids 8-13? And maybe one just for adults, let me know if you’d love this for yourself 🙂
Introducing: Photography and The Art of Seeing
A 4 week creative journey for children 8-13
Quarantined. Stuck inside. Bored. What if everything could change, while everything was required to stay the same?
What if your child could:
-See the world in shapes and colors, angles and perspectives, light and shadow, mood and tone?
-Engage with their environment in a completely new way, without having to go anywhere different?
-Become captivated by what is already around them, instead of needing to be entertained?
In this 4 week online photography class, your child will be introduced to and guided in their own journey of The Art of Seeing. There is a universe in the space of an inch, if you know how to look. Infinite perspectives are possible, just by changing the height from where you see.
Each week will focus on photography concepts in depth, with lots of examples to show what’s possible, and then your child will be set free to explore and interpret their world on their own.
Digital cameras are not required, iPads or smartphones will do just fine!
Each student will upload 8-10 of their favorite images from each lesson, and we’ll go over them together to help them develop their eye and visual voice.
You’ll be amazed by what you see through their eyes.
Weekly lessons will cover:
-Perspective: Up and Down and All Around
-Composition: Rule of Thirds, Symmetry, Leading Lines
-Reflections
-Framing, Foreground/Background
-Motion
-Light and Mood
-Emotion
-Patterns, Texture, and Repetition of Shapes
The cost for one month of weekly classes is $95 and starts next week, either Tuesday or Thursday at 3pm.
Drop me a note here, or send a pm if you’re interested and we’ll go over all the details ❤️
Classes can be purchased in my shop, www.sarahprall.com/shop
So looking forward to this creative journey!

These two, and their gorgeous baby girl, literally took my breath away. 🥰
"A Goddess doesn't rule the world.
She IS the world."
Miranda, age 12.
The time between young child and adult is such a powerful age... It can be hard to recognize your own loveliness in the face of so much change. Soulful sessions illuminate the undeniable beauty of what is, and what is becoming...
Even in the darkest of times, this family is overflowing with love and light. Ruby, what a joy it was to photograph you and your exquisitely beautiful children! Big giant hugs to all of you...
Mara, age 3.
This was one of those in between moments... Mom was feeding the baby, and we had a little time to play. I gathered some feathers and fabrics, and after some giggles, I gently called her name and just said, "eyes to me..."
She lifted her eyes, touched her hand just so, and I was immediately awe struck. Such a simple moment, such a lovely still-point. It made me gasp.
Children are so very beautiful, and being able to sit with them and laugh with them, to be able to just see them, is such a gift.
I have some new dresses available for my Soulful Sessions of children age 6-13, and I'd love to see how they photograph...

I admit it... I 100% fall in love with the people I photograph, especially the little ones. And mothers. And pregnant women. And new dads with their sweet little newborns... GAH--sometimes I just can't stand it! I find people to be so incredibly beautiful. My heart explodes every.single.time.
My most recent heart explosion was with Emma. She came to me for a motherhood session, where we photographed her (GORGEOUS) children but also created images for them to have of her. I know the day will come where these images will become a treasure like no other, and I am so so happy to have been able to do this for them.
If you'd love to have some more light, love and joy in your day, take a stroll through her gallery of images... 😍
If you are a mom and your children don't have beautiful images of you to treasure, get in touch here: www.sarahprall.com/contact
Let's do something beautiful of you, and them, for all of you.
Dayal, age 10, and Ravi, age 6. Two of the most magical children you could ever hope to meet. Siri Om, photographing you and your children was an honor and such a pleasure. ❤️
This is the lovely Jenna, pregnant with her 4th (and final) child. Never having had professional portraits of her pregnancies before, she came to me wanting to honor and celebrate her experience of carrying her children, while showing the beauty, strength and health of her pregnant body. "I have felt so wonderful in my own skin when I'm pregnant, and I really want to see that!" I'm so glad she did, she was absolutely glorious!
The last image is a snapshot of her very first pregnancy 😊 If you are pregnant, and all you have is snapshots or bathroom mirror selfies, you deserve so much more. I believe every pregnant woman should have art pieces of herself that illuminate the miracle of her body and the depth of her experience.
If you are pregnant with your last child, all you have are snapshots, and you've never had fine art portraits of yourself, I have something for you...
Get in touch (www.sarahprall.com/contact) and send me a bathroom mirror shot, or the one of you asleep on the couch that your husband took... I'll pick 5 women to offer complimentary sessions to. You will love what we create together, and be so happy you didn't settle for snapshots.
Hi All,
This is for parents with children in the "awkward age" of 8-13.
Do they turn their heads when you try to take a picture of them? Are they starting to feel negatively about how they look, no matter what you say to them?
When was the last time they were photographed? Do you feel like you're waiting until they grow out of this in-between stage, or finish with braces, or their skin clears up, etc.?
Kids this age tend to disappear from photographs, as if no one wants to be reminded of this time of becoming-but-not-yet awkwardness. But there is SO much beauty here, if they are photographed in a gentle, soulful way. They desperately want to be seen, but need to like what they see even more so.
If this speaks to you, I'm inviting you to participate in my Soulful Sessions project, and I am once again looking for models.
The regular session fee of $250 is waived, and you'll also have a $100 credit towards the purchase of any artwork you might like to have, with no pressure to do so. Siblings of any age are welcome, and we'll talk before the session so that everyone feels relaxed and actually excited to be photographed.
To see examples of these kinds of portraits, take a look here: http://www.sarahprall.com/soulful-sessions.
These children came with braces, acne, overbites, shyness, nervousness, and cheese for the camera smiles. But you don't see any of that, because that isn't who they truly are. What you see is just them, beautifully.
To participate, please get in touch through my contact page, http://www.sarahprall.com/contact
These sessions give your child the gift of seeing themselves as who they naturally, beautifully are. They'll get to experience the simple yet profound feeling of being comfortable in their own skin, and your investment in their self esteem will pay off in ways you can't even imagine...
