Yoga & Reiki Bliss Reminding us of the light that's within and around us. Yoga & Reiki Bliss: deepen your awareness one breath at a time!
Mindful Flow Yoga is online tonight, 6-7pm! Join us - www.thisisyourbliss.com
Tonight we'll focus on lunging, which is a super functional movement.
Walking, climbing stairs, walking uphill all require the lunge type movement. So as we explore this movement in a variety of ways we are working to increase our capacity for movement.
Bodies are meant to move, and the more we move mindfully, skillfully, the more we maintain our independence.
Special summer yoga classes for you! -
Yoga & Reiki Bliss Reminding us of the light that's within and around us. Yoga & Reiki Bliss: deepen your awareness one breath at a time!
When I first started yoga as a teenager, I most definitely experienced the relaxing and calming effects of the practice. But it wasn’t until I was an adult in my own home practice that I started really paying attention to what I was experiencing and feeling in the poses beyond just the relaxation and calmness. In my home practice I moved more slowly and deliberately, and this allowed to me to feel where the sensations of space and ease were; where the sensations of tightness and restriction were. I worked to pay attention to whether the sensations were always that way or were new to that particular practice.
All these kinds of inquiries led me to a deeper place in my practice: one where I was able to learn to listen; one where I was more present with myself - more aware; one where I actually trusted myself. This is the path of Svadhyaya, one of the Niyamas outlined in the Yoga Sutra.
Svadhyaya or self-study asks us to pay deep attention to ourselves so that we get closer to ourselves, so we learn more about ourselves.
One way to practice Svadhyaya is through self-inquiry. Asking questions, and staying open for the answers or even staying open to being with the unknown, brings us into the present moment, and toward what’s true for us in that moment.
Reading and seeing ourselves through the text is another way we can practice Svadhyaya.
And of course, non-judgmental observation is yet one more way we can explore this teaching. Our yoga practice teaches us how to slow down and pay attention on the mat so that we can hopefully slow down and pay more attention when we are off the mat. We train those awareness muscles on the mat so that they can “flex” more automatically when we are off the mat.
You can start this practice of inquiry and self-study right now:
As you read this, notice your shoulders - are they hiked up by your ears or relaxed?
Are they rounding forward or pinched back together or somewhere in the middle?
What choice would you like to make with regard to your shoulders right now?
Did that change anything in your neck or your breathing?
Practicing Svadhyaya allows us to get to know something about ourselves, it lets us see where and how we are, and it informs us about the choices we might make. It’s the pathway to learning and growing.
Can I borrow 2 minutes of your time?
I’ve been dreaming and designing a yoga product that I know will improve your yoga experience. While it is still in its infancy, I’ve been taking steps to bring it to fruition.
Here’s where you come in. Would you be willing to take a 2 minute survey, simply sharing a little about your yoga practice?
Your answers will give me insight as to how my product will support you best.
If you scan the QR code it will take you to the survey.
And if you leave your email address at the end of the survey, you will be entered into a raffle to win a free online Yoga Bliss yoga class. You can choose from our Tuesday Morning Mindful Movement class, our Wednesday Mindful Flow Level 1 class, or our Sunday Pure Bliss Restorative Yoga class.
Thank you so much! I can’t wait to share more details about this with you soon!

Looking forward to exploring FUNctional yoga this month in my classes. We'll explore how functional movements (like a hinge or a squat) show up in our yoga practice and how they show up in our lives so that we can bring the mindfulness we cultivate on the mat into our day to day lives.

Join us as we explore shoulder strength and some variations on side plank!
Side plank (Vasisthasana) is one of my favorite poses and a pose we've been exploring in my classes this month. I love both its accessibility as well as the opportunities to amp it up and grow it. Plus it offers the right amount of challenge to my core stability - particularly side body - my wrist and shoulder mobility and strength, and my sense of balance.
Here are some ways to progress it from little-to-no weight-bearing, to supported weight-bearing, to full on side plank with some variations! And remember, you can always adapt thus to your forearm if you have wrist issues.

I'm so thrilled that Pure Bliss is happening this Sunday, May 19, 7-8pm online, https://www.thisisyourbliss.com/offerings/pure-bliss-restorative-yoga to join us!
At least once a day I find myself lying down with my legs up the wall - not joking. It might only be for a couple of minutes, but within those few minutes of deliberate stillness and quiet, I slow down, breathe, and restore myself. It's a huge re-set.
My tendencies to react, push, and rush diminish, and I feel much more like the me I would like to be all the time.
Join us for your own body, mind, spirit, nervous system reset!
Mindful Flow Yoga is online tonight 6-7 (e.t)! www.thisisyourbliss.com to join us!
Show your whole body some love as we work out the kinks in your neck, shoulders, hips and spine. Even the wrists and feet get some love tonight. See you soon!
I remember the first time I "did" Savasana. I was in high school, taking yoga as part of our P.E. class. I had no idea how stressed out I was, how exhausted and depleted I was until that moment. As I rested in Savasana, I felt every muscle relax, every bit of tension unwind, even my headache released. It was transformative.
This is the power of the restorative yoga practice. It helps us to let go. It helps us restore ourselves back to feeling better, feeling whole, feeling healthy, feeling like ourselves.
