Sub Rosa
Sub Rosa is a gathering place where a reverence for the Earth and the pursuit of pleasure collide.
It's finally here: .argue's show ππππ πππ ππππ - an unabashed commentary on climate change and the epidemic of book banning - opens to the public tonight at 7pm.*
We couldn't be more thrilled to present this work to our community and to welcome our brilliant friend, Doug, to Northampton. Bringing ππππ πππ ππππ to Sub Rosa has been in the works for over a year - ever since we were invited by our friends and to share a meal with Doug. At the time, we were still in the midst of building-out Sub Rosa and Doug was painting a new body of work that sounded so poignant, exacting and relevant to our shared realities...but he revealed that his galleries were uninterested in showing these new pieces. As q***r farmers who are deeply affected by climate change / book banning / the latest incarnation of culture wars, the walls at Sub Rosa suddenly seemed like they were being built for this show.
If you don't have a ticket for the artists' talk this evening, we will be opening to the public at 7pm tonight, when you can meet Doug and get a signed copy of his (banned) book π³ππππππ ππ πππ ππππππ πΉ
Supermoon feelings.
The frost hit the fields in the Valley this week.... more than once. But we'll keep bringing you flowers from our greenhouses for as long as we can. See you tonight πΉ

Our ode to the dahlia is bountiful tonightβ¦weβre expecting a frost in the valley this week, so we will bid adieu to our field crops within the next few days and rely solely on our greenhouses to keep bringing you flowers for as long as we can π₯
Come celebrate the ephemeral with us tonight, and head home with some dahlias while you can πΈ
Gather at Sub Rosa on Saturday, October 26th to celebrate the opening of New York City-based artist .argue's new body of work, Fire for Fire - an unabashed commentary on climate change and the epidemic of book banning.
Doug will be joined by his good friend and co-conspirator, , for an intimate conversation. There are only about 20 tickets available to this artists' talk (link in bio)...
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Artists' talk begins at 6 p.m. Doors open to the public at 7 p.m. Ticket holders will receive a copy of Doug Argue's book π³ππππππ ππ πππ ππππππ, which was banned by the Weisman Museum the night Argue's career survey exhibition (also called Letters to the Future) opened at the museum. Sub Rosa is honored to host these two brilliant minds and gather in community with you all. πΉ
Rebecca is BACK tonight for the first time in weeks after designing her heart out every weekend in recent memory. Come say hi.
We've got some delicious new wines for you that have yet to make their way to the printed pages of the menu....IMO, it's better to hear Rebecca wax poetic about them in a way that only a writer - turned - farmer / florist can do. See you soon. πΉ

We're looking forward to seeing your faces again this weekend, however dystopian that may feel right now. Let us take care of you and your heartbreaksπΉ
To our beloved botanical dreamers:
We have made the difficult decision to close Sub Rosa this week. We wish that we could be in all the places at once, but the reality is, life has thrown some curve balls our way - including some illness amongst our farm staff. Since it's just the two of us running the lounge, we are making this decision to keep our community safe and healthy. We know you all understand β₯οΈ
We will be back with our special guest friend/server extraordinaire next week.
And stay tuned for a BIG art show announcement that's premiering at the end of October π₯
We love y'all and we already miss you. See you Thursday 10/3 πΉ Free Palestine π΅πΈ Free Lebanon π±π§

You'll find the first dahlias of the season for sale at the bar this weekend, direct from the ' field... AND some pretty cooooool off-menu drink specials like a chilled red (that kel may or may not remember the name of when they're hyping it up) and a special italian amaro situation with fresh mint from the farm....
On the desert side of things, how do you feel about a frangipane plum galette with fresh mascarpone whipped cream? Or maybe a local sundae is more your speed?
One way or another, let us take care of you this weekend. Doors open at 5 -- and will probably be ajar all weekend long with this incredible relief from the heat! See you soon πΉ

overjoyed to finally share this projectβa photo essay 15 years in the makingβnow featured in the latest issue of
On a sweltering July day in 2009, I came home from college to photograph my mother and her coworkers during their shift at my motherβs nail salon. I intended this session to be the first of many, hoping to document them through the seasons. But three months later, with the recession in full swing, my mother declared bankruptcy and sold her salon. The place that sustained us for over two decades, from which my brother and I were raised, where we worked answering the phones, evaporated overnight. The photos I took that one fateful day would be the only ones I have of that place.
15 years later, perhaps as a cumbersome way of grieving, I spent a week in July photographing my brother, who moved in with me after our mother died. What began as a study of a place, the small but mighty people who live, labor, and lose there, became an exercise in looking at the only thing left of that place: my little brother, Nicky. I suppose some projects change the way some desires change through the years, not by deliberate searching, but by discovering a more-ness, a dynamism, in what remains. In this case, the person bound to us by blood.
A deep bow to for featuring a selection from this ongoing project, along with an original essay on photography, memory, the vexed ethics of seeing, and which bodies the archive holdsβand which it erases. (Link in bio)

Dear friends - it's that time of the week: we're open tonight, 5-10 and Fri & Sat, 5-11. We will have Peonies for Palestine on hand to help remind you of the beauty that is possible in this world. Get them while you can - they are hard-won, gorgeous blooms that are finite in the MG fields. Half of all peony sales will be donated to - they are providing essential medical aid and food for the hundreds of thousands of displaced and besieged Palestinians in Gaza. Take care of yourselves and maybe we'll see you soon.

This Saturday is the start of our local pride here in Northampton (a month earlier than everywhere else π€), but what better timing to highlight that our liberation struggles are inextricably tied together! We wholeheartedly believe that "no one is free when others are oppressed," and we are so heartened by the students' actions across the country and around the world demanding their universities divest from war profiteering as they fight for a Free Palestine. Thank you to all our community members who are showing up with their bodies on the line right now. π΅πΈβ€οΈβπ₯π
We're opening early this Saturday in honor of Noho/Hampshire County Pride. Come share all your deep feelings starting at 2pm πΉ

Reposted from βWe are talking about complete revolution, revolution to change people and institutions. The university, so long as it chooses to remain in the dark age of repressiveness, is the enemy. There will be no freedom for anybody as long as we are oppressed. All oppressed people are our allies. The enemy is the same. The only solution is revolution.β - Gay Students Liberation at NYU, September 1970
