Breaking tasks into small steps isn't just helpful for people with ADHD; it's necessary.
"Why Your Child’s Messy Bedroom Is an Abstract Monster" "I understood, at last, that ADHD can make things like tidying a messy room feel like you're going up against an abstract monster. Our brains find it very hard to look at a shapeless, scary problem and break it down into manageable chunks."
We have a fun, Zoom-based science activity for middle school students about social-emotional skills and behaviors! Parents of 6th-8th graders can view study details here: https://redcap.link/h26c8bhe

Have you ever struggled to hear in a loud, crowded room? What strategies do you use to understand someone when you can’t hear them well? Many of us use visual speech cues to fill in the gaps. This is often what young children try do in noisy classrooms when it comes time to learn new information.
Our research team at Rush NeuroBehavioral Center want to understand how visual speech cues (e.g., lipreading) affect language processing in school-age children. We are inviting children ages 6 to 10 years to participate in this study.
Participation includes three visits. The first two visits can take place in-person at one of our sites or remotely. In-person visits can take place at Rush NeuroBehavioral Center (Skokie) or Rush University Medical Center (Chicago). Visits will last approximately 1 hour, and children will receive a $10 gift card for the first two visits and $25 for the third visit. Parents will also receive a $10 gift card for in-person visits. If you’re interested, contact us via Messenger or reach out directly (see flyer below for more information).
Have you ever struggled to hear in a crowded, loud room? Now imagine that you need to learn new words in that background noise. That is often what young children need to do: our world is noisy and they are trying to build their vocabulary through experience in that world.
Our researchers at Rush NeuroBehavioral Center want to understand how children navigate these types of environments. We're inviting children ages 4-6 years to participate in a study testing how background noise affects the ability to learn new words.
Participation includes two visits at either Rush NeuroBehavioral Center (Skokie) or Rush University Medical Center (Chicago). Families will receive a $10 gift card per visit, plus a bonus for attending both visits. Children will also receive fun prizes and books! If you're interested, contact us via Messenger or reach out directly (see flyer below for more information).
