We’re Heidi, Sarah, and Mimi—the sisters behind Bloomin’ Acres Farm 🌻
We grow flowers from seed using organic and sustainable practices on our family farm. We started selling our flowers at farmers markets in 2020. In 2021 we expanded to more farmers markets, event flowers, and experimented with u-pick. We love getting the chance to connect with flower lovers in the community.
We can’t wait to have you to the farm this summer 💕
Hello! I’ve missed you. I fully planned on posting all fall/winter but took a much-needed break instead.
Let’s get right into it! 2022 will be an exciting year for our little family. Blake graduates dental school in the spring and is on the hunt for jobs. That means we don’t exactly know where we’ll be living in half a year. Regardless, we’re planning out our gardens and ordering our seeds and are fully intending to bring you beautiful blooms this summer.
I’m trying my best to embrace the unknown and still enjoy the current moment. Is 2022 bringing any big changes for you? Cheers to the unknown and new beginnings 💕
Wow 😍 dried flower goals!
Emerald Tassels 💚 My mom grew thousands of these plants and we plan to grow thousands more next year. They add gorgeous color, texture, and movement to arrangements.
Found some hidden gems in the garden that survived the first few frosts 💕
Sometimes I pretend to be Erin from walking around my “dahlia breeding patch” (if you know, you know 😂). Unlike Floret’s acres of dahlias, our breeding patch is one little row of dahlias that we grew from seed. Our patch is small but mighty and full of charming blooms like this one 💕
Goodbye flowers 💕 Our season is officially over with the first frost today. I can’t even begin to think about fall cleanup 😅 It can wait for now.
Mimi’s showing off our Oklahoma Salmon zinnias from 😍 These were hands down my favorite zinnias we grew this year. They were some of the first to bloom in the early summer and are still blooming in October 🧡 What’s your favorite type of zinnia?
Nope…that’s not a tree I’m holding. Just a monstrous cosmos plant 🤯 I found it flopped over in the wildflower field and was shocked when I lifted it up. It’s FULL of gorgeous blooms from top to bottom and almost 9 ft tall. I blame this crazy weather for all of the mutant plants I keep finding around the farm 😅
Little gomphrena forest 💜
We grew 30+ varieties of sunflowers. Single stem, branching, yellow, purple, red, orange, pink, white. You name it—we probably grew it. But this variety stood out in the field. Soraya is a branching, pollenless variety that produced gorgeous blooms. Long, strong stems with uniform flower heads in that classic sunflower color. Do you have a favorite sunflower? 🌻💛
The dahlias just won’t quit! I’m spending this weekend IDing the different varieties I have growing and deciding which are worth keeping.
In the next week or two I’ll start digging up the labeled tubers and prepping them for winter storage. During the growing season, a single tuber multiplies and can be divided up to propagate the plant. I’m excited to see how my tubers have multiplied and what kind of stock I’ll have for next year 🤞🏼
And then it’s time to start compiling my wishlist for varieties I’d like to grow next year. Dahlia growers—what are some of your must-grow varieties?
As this flower season winds down I finally have a chance to process just how much we’ve accomplished. With no prior experience, we turned a completely overgrown section of our property into a flourishing flower business on a grad student budget while working and in school full time. There were many times when we felt we had no energy left to give. But we pushed and persevered and grew. I know I’ll look back at this year as one of the most rewarding and transformative times of my life.
If you’re thinking about taking a chance on yourself and doing something you know could change your life for the better, get out of your own way and just do it. You will be shocked at what you can accomplish 🤟🏼💕
Thomas Edison dahlia 💡This one is a real showstopper. When you see it in person you wonder how a color this vibrant can occur in nature.
The dahlias keep getting better and better 😍
Gomphrena! Another flower I loved growing this year. It added a great pop of color and texture to our bouquets. And it dries beautifully. I have hundreds of stems that I’ll be harvesting and hanging to dry this weekend. Picture wreaths, garlands, dried bouquets 😍
A birthday bouquet for Grandma 💕
Can’t get enough of these strawflowers! I’m drying them in the barn and am going to attempt to make fall wreaths with them this weekend. The ones I dried a few weeks ago have kept their color beautifully 😍
Happy first day of fall! This Pampas Plume Celosia has been one of my favorite fillers this year. We will definitely be growing more of it and in more colors next season 😍
September 🌻🍁🍂 Soaking up this changing of the seasons with gratitude for a busy and abundant summer and hope for a more restful fall. I think I can speak for flower farmers everywhere when I say we’re tired 😅
