Congratulations to all the NMCS kids who participated in the summer Talent and Fashion Show!🎤 Talents included music, singing, dancing, gymnastics, and more. The Fashion Show showcased outfits made from recycled materials ♻️ like bags, newspaper, maps, paint samples, and more. The clothes were carefully crafted by teachers Andrea, Aracelia, and Andrea’s mom and were modeled by NMCS students. Shout out to the amazing teachers who made the show a success! We were delighted to have so many parents and community members in the audience to cheer the performers on. 🥳🎊

Summer Garden Club is in full swing, and both the School Age and Preschool gardens are thriving! Along with teachers Allysa and Omahar, students are learning how to plant and take care of a garden, what nutrients their bodies get from eating vegetables, how to harvest vegetables and grapes, and more! Most recently, students worked pulling weeds in the area near the playground so they can plant sunflowers 🌻

Special thanks to the following people and businesses that helped our garden this year!
🌱 Marie Steckmest from the UC Marin Master Gardeners who helped us plan our beds, gave us gardening advice, and donated soil and plants/flowers.
🌱 Sloat Garden Center for donating soil, plants, and seeds.
🌱 Pini Hardware for donating soil.

Today was the second session of our new small group called 'Building Champions' led by Yvette, Mental Health Associate and Ivy, MFT Trainee here at NMCS. This group will be offered once a week for the next six weeks. The group’s goal is to foster trust, respect, and peer connections while reducing conflicts, discipline issues, and anxiety. The group provides boys with an opportunity to meet with classmates and peers on a more personal level.

Students will participate in a variety of activities and projects while focusing on a weekly themed lesson. The overall goal is for boys to learn that they are in control of their attitudes, behaviors, and success and to come to understand that with perseverance they can be champions at life!

Deborah is a Novato middle school student who participated in our School Works Initiative (SWI) program. We are grateful for her willingness to share her story 💜 From Deborah: “The reason I got referred [to SWI] was because at my previous school, I wasn’t making the best choices and over time, things got worse. While in the program, I met new people that became friends and went on field trips. They were super fun. My favorite memory was going to Six Flags in the summer and the trampolines at Epicenter. I would meet with Ms. Cinthia once a week in the office; that helped me because if I had work, I could catch up. If I had missing assignments, I could finish them and if I got stuck, I could ask for help. It felt good knowing that I would see an improvement in my grades, and it also made my parents proud.

“Throughout the program Ms. Cinthia helped me set goals and get to know myself better. My parents also got help as part of the program. They used to meet with their case manager, Isaura, and got help with things that made a difference for my whole family. We started to get along more, talk calmly and spend more quality time together. My parents didn’t get to finish school, their family couldn’t afford it; so, they had to work at an early age. Knowing the sacrifices they made, like coming to the US, makes me grateful because I know they want a better life for me and my brother. That is what keeps me motivated. The experience I had changed me for the better and I am glad I participated in the School Works Initiative program.”
