I've been talking a lot about frequencies and energy the last few days, and this is a path I’ve chosen to explore in my art. Recently, I started playing with the idea of merging this energy not just with moments, but with people. I’ve always loved the concept of spirit guides and the energies they represent. For those who aren’t familiar, a spirit guide is an entity that acts as a guide or protector to a living individual.While I was in New Mexico, I had this profound connection with a spirit guide—a shaman who looked strikingly similar to Georgia O'Keeffe, straight up wearing a Stetson! You all probably know that iconic image of Georgia I'm talking about. This is the first painting in my new series, where I’m diving into the energy and essence of spirit guides.I have no idea where this journey will lead, but I'm having so much fun with it.Remember when I shared how my inner voice told me to have more fun? Well, here’s another result of that! There’s something about this direction that feels like coming home. If you knew me in undergrad or grad school, you’ll know that the human form was my focus back in the day, circa 1990’s. I painted figures up until we moved to the beach, when I felt like I needed to paint everything ocean-related.But in my quest to be more authentically me, here we go: "My Spirit Guide Wears a Stetson" (aka Georgia O’Keeffe). I've come to realize that the energy we send out into the universe always finds its way back to us. It’s like an endless cycle of vibrations, constantly flowing, reflecting, and shaping life. Whether through sound, light, or movement, I’m always tuning into these forces and exploring how they resonate and create something new. 🌀The spirals, circles, and geometric patterns in my work symbolize that constant flow—everything is always evolving, always becoming. I let the energy of the moment guide me, allowing spontaneity and flow to lead me to unexpected places in my art. 🎨🌊The *Sounds of Summer* collection was born out of this idea. I started looking at photos, tapping into the energy of a specific day, feeling the emotions, sensations, and frequencies of that moment, and painting what came to me. From there, the idea exploded in my heart. Going to Santa Fe for the artist residency deepened my practice, helping me to paint the frequency of a place—each mark I make is a reflection of the vibrational pull of that location’s energy.I know it may sound a bit woo-woo, but I’ve always felt this way, tuned in to the subtle frequencies around us. And I bet you’ve felt it too. Ever been in a room where the energy is tense, and you can almost see the colors of anger? Or in a place filled with joy, where you feel the warmth and love all around? 🌿 *Healing on Hyde Park Road* 🌿One of my favorite drives in Santa Fe is up Hyde Park Road. This day, I took the time to stop, hike, paint, and cry. Santa Fe holds so many memories for me—some are wonderful, but not all. This trip was a healing one, a time to reconnect and release some old trauma.In my work, I often see nature as a mirror for life—its seasons of growth, struggle, and renewal reflecting our own journeys. On days like this, I paint in silence, no music, just the sounds, smells, and the way the light touches me as I work. It’s all about vibrations, freedom, connection, and fun.This piece, *Hyde Park Road* (24"x24"), is a reflection of that journey.
Creating takes time... I’m learning to honor my creative rhythm, giving myself the freedom to explore without pressure.
My time away in August feels like just the beginning of reconnecting with the authentic creator I know I am.I’m being intentional about moving slowly, letting all the ideas settle and grow.
Some magic has come through, and of course, some trash too. 😅 But I’m excited to share what’s next—stay tuned!

🎨✨ Just had a cancellation for this Saturday's Batik Workshop, which means ONE lucky person can join us! We'll be creating beautiful, 100% cotton sarongs that are not only super soft but incredibly versatile. I practically live in mine all summer—whether as a beach cover-up, a towel, or a skirt. I've also had customers get creative, using them as wall tapestries, curtains, or even shower curtains. The possibilities are endless! 🌟
Batik is such a fun and unique process, using melted wax as a resist on fabric. Once dyed, the waxed areas resist the color, creating stunning designs. It's one of my favorite workshops, and I'd love for you to experience it too. We’ll be meeting this Saturday, August 31 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Here is the link t register!

Under the strawberry moon, I laid bare my heart, tears mingling until the ocean was fast. There, in the quiet dark, the soul's whispers are secrets, profound and eternal, waiting to be discovered, letting in the love and letting out the light.

Pescado Y Amor was started in 2009 on a warm summer day in Sayulita, Mexico. Where we lived and played for six months fine tuning our ideas and collaborating our artistic imaginations. Pescado Y Amor combines our love of Mexico, love of the beach, and love of life and art. We now reside in Oak Island, North Carolina, where we work along side each other creating art.
