In 2023, there were 5 cases of measles in Illinois. As of March 2024, cases of measles have been identified in Chicago. No cases of measles have been identified in Oak Park at this time.

There are currently no formal recommendations from the Oak Park Health Department to deviate from the standard MMR vaccination schedule. In response to the current MMR outbreak in Chicago, Pedios is making the following recommendations:

- If you live in Chicago or your child attends daycare or school in Chicago, you might want to consider having your child receive their 2nd MMR vaccine earlier than is routine
- There are currently no changes to the recommended vaccination schedule for children living in the suburbs of Chicago

Of note, the MMR vaccine is a very effective vaccine - a single dose of MMR is ~95% effective at preventing measles. At our office, children typically receive the MMR vaccine at 1 year old and 4 year old.

If you would like to discuss the current guidelines or vaccinations options, please do not hesitate to call the office. This is an evolving situation and recommendations may change.
