Born August 18, 1934

My mother would be so happy to know that a woman of color is the democratic candidate for president. She fought tirelessly for women’s equality, desegregation in the south where I was raised, and for lgbtq rights.

It was important to her that I know what it means to be a woman in this country; what resources I have and what resources I am denied. Awareness is the birthplace of choice. This she taught me well and how funny that its the foundation of my business.

Time does not heal all wounds.

Time and space are vehicles in which energies shift and for this evolution I remain grateful.

I see things differently now and I honor the part of me who has used the past as a tool for creating my future.

People laugh when I say my relationship with my mother improved after she transitioned from this world. I don’t mean it as a joke. I mean that we understand each other better with a thin veil of ether between us. We are less attached and more comfortable with each other’s presence.

My mother held me and her cigarette about the same: like she might get burned holding us too closely.

She inhaled us both and I often felt like I was swallowed up in her Leo magma.

I love my mom beyond measure and I didn’t always like her.

Mother-daughter relationship was not easy for us and we worked hard at loving each other as we were.

I was gifted with a complicated relationship and I count it as the most important one of my life, still.
We talk most days. My mother guides me still and I remain grateful for her birth 90 years ago today.

I love you momma and here is a great big full moon and the start of the first ever convention with a black woman leading the way. Thank you for your service for all of us who have been chained through the patriarchy.

Oh boy.Nonsteroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen, aspirin, Motrin, Aleve, all of those shut down the genes  that code for tissue repair. They operate by blocking genes COX-1 or cycloOxygenase-2. These genes are responsible for producing the proteins that heal the tissues. Tissue repair can ONLY occur when you have inflammation. It’s a word that’s used to sell drugs. It’s a normal physiological response to injury. The body’s intelligence and elegance is not wrong.Taking pills to shut down normal body functions is not smart imho.There’s a bigger effect at risk than you can visualize or sense.Inflammation is the way that those genes get signal and then tissue repair can happen. When we have “inflammation“ it’s actually a healing response. When you shut it down it’s the same as acting like nothing ever happened. You can notice how the pain goes away? That’s not healing.Pain is a healthy response to injury.And healing can only happen through honoring your body’s response and resilience.Ibuprofen is a drug to act like nothing is happening.That’s definitely how most of society operates. You could do some whiskey shots too and at the end of the day, you won’t feel any pain, but you also won’t be healed.Most people really just want to not feel anything. The whole system is set up for this. I like to tell people that I have just found which way is east and I can show you that way, but most people still want to believe it is south or west or north and just call it east.So yes, there’s literature that will support a philosophy of pill popping and I would just say as smart as you are that you could dig deeper. If you want to understand what’s happening in your body and heal.  The fact that you can’t walk is probably an indication that you need a lot of rest. It’s probably also an indication that you had pain during your training and you just ignored it. Or you just took a whole bunch of ibuprofen. Look up the effects of taking ibuprofen nonstop - go deeper. You can end up with kidney or liver or stomach problems and you’re still gonna have a fu**ed up ankle. 🙏🏻🌈✨🎤

FEAR will tell you that you can’t start over.

FEAR will tell you that Quitters are WEAK.

Intuition will show you that letting go is your greatest strength.

Intuition will teach you that you already are capable of everything.

Intuition will tell you that letting go of what is not working is the only way to make room for what will work.

There is no right way.

There is only YOUR way.

Don’t be afraid to just fu***ng

You will always know what is meant for you by how you feel.

Follow the feeling back to your heart. You always know what the next right thing is and that is all you need.

The food we eat.

Do you know its true origin ?

Was its food the most natural food to nourish it?

I notice the cultural norms are void of rootedness.

Consumption culture ignores the origin of all that is consumed.

What is food?

Have you defined for yourself what nourishes you mind,body and spirit?

How do you know what makes you feel the most alive?

how have you discovered that to be true for you?

what is a live for you? What lessons and wisdom come through for you as you consume your food?

Awareness is now.

Great change is coming and only you can choose.

💫Light is everything. The frequency of light is so important to our health.

💫Be sure to find the people, places and things that bring light, lightness and especially warmth to your heart to your body to your mind and soul.

I found this little angel outside today in the 98° weather and she was faced down and fluttering. I picked her up and tried to see if she needed food or water or a cooler place to be and she just died in my hand. It brought up so much sadness and grief for me. Probably lots easier to deal with death in the hand than the heart.

sparrows remind us of Service end of community. Death is often about rebirth, transformation, and release.

I don’t know what it means. But I know what it feels like.

I know what loss feels like and what grief feels like and I really know what it feels like to be afraid of not knowing what things mean.

I am reminded through rituals of burial - especially as we approach the solstice - that being buried properly can be like being planted.

What is growing in the soil of my heart?

What I nurture in my heart will grow.

I choose love 💕

Just because you left the earth doesn’t mean that you are not still alive in our hearts 💕 this was one of the last times I was with my father in his home. I stayed with him and oh how much he loved having my there. My father loved animals and babies more than any human I know.

I find myself here at my edge.

Edges are my jam. I seek the edges.

And….Just for now. I have lost my compass.

I don’t know how to be in the world without my daddy.

Today I bore witness to parts of myself that I wasn’t fully aware were lurking.

One thing I know is that I am not always resourced the way I need to be.

I don’t know how to be an orphan.

I don’t know how to have so much dissonance with my sister.

I don’t know how to feel everything I feel.

I don’t know how to be accommodating to others without losing myself at work or in my personal life.

I don’t know how to feel shame and hold compassionate space for myself at the same time.

Sometimes I do.

But mostly I run over shame and try to kill it and then whip into reverse to back over it and then smash it again gunning it into drive……..then I pour gasoline on it and light a match on my way out.

I really do not like grief and I just am going to need to take time for writing about it and processing it.

Thanks to everyone who knows me and has offered me the safest space to process my imperfections.

Feeling wobbly is feeling shame and the only thing to do about shame is name it. Shame can’t live at the edges in the light and love.

I can just be the compassion I am in need of and hope that you can see me through this journey.

The training is bringing me full send to my edges.

If I ask myself this ONE question I am unstoppable.

What am I saying YES to?

I’m saying yes to ME.

Self care is not just sis treatment. In fact, for me, self care is an intentional practice of listening to my inner voice.

I have goals and aspirations and big big dreams that are not only about doing things. My goal is to discover who I can become along the journey.

I just want to blossom 🌸 over here in my own life and feel the most alive in love with what is.

What a gorgeous day for the first paddle of the year. This time last year we were navigating rocks due to low water levels. We have water and currents and so we tipped ourselves over trying to get the canoe 🛶 to shore. I say, once a season we shall go overboard and I will hold the boat to the standard.

Recreation is for fun! I’m also starting my and this also fun.
Lots of things in life are difficult and I believe that I have some choice in the matter:)

Before this day of energy cycles into the morning, I want to acknowledge the bravest and strongest person, my father. 💫

❤️ Ampelio Isetti transitioned from the physical world today during the solar eclipse.

I was not with him in the room but I was with him in my heart.

He was my daddy, my babbo.

I landed in Guatemala Wednesday with a text informing me he had just been diagnosed with throat cancer that morning. Between the eclipses, I felt certain that he had chosen a real completion point.

As I lie on the dock at lake Atitlan across from the volcano I was reminded that I cannot control the grief that will surely erupt in me. I can only be present with it and succumb to its red hot lava. We are unmistakably transformed by grief.

🌒Grief reminds me of my breathing heart and soul, it shows me that I love big.

I love my daddy and I will miss him forever. ❤️

We must all find the people and the places that allow us to live in the fullest possible expression of ourselves.

✨Magic is afoot in the world and I am truly grateful to be here in this moment with these wonderful people in this beautiful location.

I don’t believe we must travel thousands of miles away from home to find ourselves and, still, sometimes we do.

The miles are often metaphor for the distance we travel on the way to our own heart.❤️

Wherever you find yourself, I do hope you are discovering yourself anew. May the journey be never ending and full of blessings and adventures.

Eating French fries and barbecue in the sunshine is an event that can only be experienced from the inside out.
When I have been unfit and overweight and not in the sun, I have eaten great food and when I am fit and right weight for me and in the sunshine I have eaten great food.

The difference is only in how I feel!
How do I change? I change my story.

I shift how I feel.

I hang out with people like Cynthia (second photo) who love and accept me as I am and whom I love and accept as they are.

I do things that FEEL good. If I am not feeling fit, I change it by moving more, lifting weights, getting more sun, and playing in the dirt gardening.

I practice noticing when I don’t feel great and then shifting out of it as soon as I notice it.

For me that means creating affirmations for myself that lift me up. Affirmations are not in lieu of DOING something, it is doing something—it is choosing a new thought that feels better. A thought that I have chosen so I need not go searching for it in my moment of need. Pre-planting an idea is planning for success. It’s like mental meal-prep. If it is already in the fridge (mind) chances of choosing that over something not so good for me are highly increased.

Positive affirmations are thoughts that initiate a feeling and from that feeling I choose to DO something that feels good like go for a walk, get outside, cook something healthy, call a friend who loves me…..

These photos are a to the last time I was in Louisville to celebrate my birthday and hang out with my very closest friends! I spent time with one of my dearest friends in the whole world. She will never see this post because she doesn’t use social media. She has neither a smart phone nor a computer. What she does have is volumes of blackmail on me including these photos. She has a great photo of me from a trip we took to Fancy Farm way back in the good ole days of fighting for equal rights in . If I ever get my hands on it I will share it—definitely is going in my !

Spring break. Resting after the push through the winter. Tulip magnolia taking her time to open up in full bloom. More sun, more heat, is required for us to open fully. It’s wonderful to go somewhere warm where the sun and heat are plentiful.

My mind goes back to the swallow tail butterfly 🦋 who burst forth from the cocoon way before there was any chance of eating or mating. He was on a solo adventure with wires crossed by early hot temperatures. His wing was damaged so badly he would not ever fly.

Life doesn’t look one way.

Life takes its own course regardless of how we burst onto the scene.

We can go to hot places and still we return to the rhythm of our regular lives.

Lots of people need a break from their life and I wonder what a life that they don’t want to break from would look like?

What would it take to live a life that you love?

Is it location? Temperature? Mountain? Ocean? Both? Desert?

Or is it the relentless pace that drives the desire for a break?

Taking a vacation is wonderful and it can be rejuvenating.

While on break, see if you can find the rhythm of your body. While you are on vacation try being mindful of your body’s natural sleep schedule and your body’s natural energy levels and your body’s desire for food and sleep and real hydration (electrolytes).

Of course, I mean in unadulterated ways.

When you return, be sure to bring the weather with you.

What I mean by that is be sure to bring your vacation mindset back with you. See if you can hold on to the sun. Otherwise, like the swallowtail you will find yourself unable to fly or survive in the environment.

In other words we create our own environment.

A client traveled around the globe looking for some place to move that felt better than Chicago and when I asked “where are you going to relocate?!” She said “I realize I can be depressed anywhere. So I’m not moving.”

It’s great to recognize that she needs to deal with the depression before she moves because she has to be able to “see” clearly.

First deal with your insides, then you can change your outsides.

The moon is in its gibbous phase, nearly full.

You know that feeling……almost, not quite, so close!🌔

The moon is a scrying ball of intuition reflecting our dreams. If you find yourself gazing up at the moon, hoping to receive significant messages or visions that could offer personal guidance, prophecy, revelation, or inspiration, now is the time to walk through the doors that open easily.

What you seek is seeking you.

The moon 🌙 reflects the sun’s light and mirrors it.

What is giving you light right now?

What is being reflected back to you?

Let your intuition guide your moves as we enter eclipse season again

What you started working with in October is circling back to be completed.

Give yourself ample time to rest and center your energy so that all the bumps are a little smoother.

There is nothing to be gained from rushing through this.
In fact, rushing through fire 🔥 might be a tad careless right now.

Do something just for fun. If you’re feeling full, see what you can set down?

Let go attachments to outcome and let it be easy.

A little humor and a lot of wisdom.

The truth is we must be willing to open ourselves up as we might be opening the fridge door or the door to anything outside of ourselves.

There is a faith that only comes from doubt. Doubt as in questioning what I perceive.

The answer is in the willingness to ask. My constant prayer is that I might see things differently.

When I feel negative emotions rise a choice is always available to me. I know that

I can choose peace ☮️ instead of fear.

When I remember the acorn is already programmed to become the Oak tree I can remember that what I need is already in me.

I can open the door to my heart and soul and let myself breathe in the knowledge that I already AM enough and my real work is to become the best version of myself.

Becoming the best version of self is always an inside job. We must develop our senses to be able to hear the still, small voice within. For each of us there is an inner connection that we must nurture.

I use several practices to strengthen my relationship with myself.

Some simple practices I use are:
Gratitude
Breathwork
Meditation
Hydration
Tongue Scraping
Naysa
Preparing my own food
Exercise
Gardening
Writing
Playing
Music

Going up?

Faith is not a clinging, it is a letting go.

Often, I tell my story over and over again until it feels complete. when this happens I doubt I remember the “true” event but I understand myself better.

Hiraeth is a welsh word that has possessed me.

🏡It means longing to return to a home that never was.

This story I tell myself of how it was, how I was.

🌊For me, it was waters rising without notice and levees bursting, ocean rushing in fast and hard. Instead of swimming, like I always have, I went under, swallowed salt, spun in the surf till the kelp tangled my legs and held me under long past the point my lungs screamed for air.

No mistake, it took me out.

And I let it – because sometimes there is nothing to be done but let life have its way.

We make sense of our lives in retrospect.
In this very moment I am securely sitting in the unknown.

🌺Here is all I do know:
I am going to Guatemala to write.
I am going to run a marathon in Patagonia, Chile.
I am building a new website expressive of my spiritual work.
I am running a business that is evolving.

I am learning to let go, to have Fatih and to TRUST.

🍄There is not enough room to write what I do not know and even if I could articulate it, it would be incomplete at best, because I cannot know what I don’t know.

I do feel that most suffering comes from trying to make things make sense before they are fully formed.

I have been pushing, but I’m not doing that now.

✨Finally, I recognize that the path of my evolution lies in my willingness to RECEIVE.

❤️ heart opens in ways beyond our comprehension but only in safe places where we can receive the treasure that awaits us all.

I have such an issue with fitness marketing.
It drives me bonkers to see ads expounding the virtues of carnivore diet, keto, fasting, whole foods, etc mansplaining how if only your grocery list looked like “THIS” you’d be lean by now.

The whole fu@king paradigm makes me sick.

Only morons believe that it’s only calories in calories out.

I studied physics, dude.
AND, more significantly, when it comes to human metabolism, I studied biochemistry.

✨Oh, and I lost over 100 pounds 35 years ago.

The human body has layers of elegance and sophistication, which is likely why these folk need to dumb it down to CICO.

💣But here’s the truth: 🎤

💪🏼🙏🏻FITNESS and WEIGHT LOSS are as much an emotional issue as they are a physical issue.

💫If you don’t heal the human you have to increase the vigilance (read more diets, more extreme measures)
As long as a nervous system is activated you can not be healthy.

I remember after I lost over 100 pounds by healing my emotional wounds and regulating my nervous system, going to my OB/Gyn and seeing her poster that read “Exercise More, Eat Less!”

📈Just for fun, can you GRAPH that for me? Over a life time how much less can you eat and how much more can you exercise?🤔
