Bring us your small plastic components (contact blister packs and solution bottles and caps, eye drop single dose vials, contact lense cases, etc.) and we’ll see that they’re properly recycled. Every little bit helps! ♻️

Approximately 25 million Americans have cataracts, which causes cloudy, blurry or dim vision. Here are three things we want our patients to know about cataracts.
• Risk factors: Age isn’t the only risk factor for cataracts. Though most everyone will develop cataracts with age, studies show that lifestyle can influence when and how severely you develop cataracts. Diabetes, extensive exposure to sunlight, smoking, obesity, high blood pressure and certain ethnicities have all been linked to increased risk of cataracts. Eye injuries, prior eye surgery and long-term use of steroid medication can also result in cataracts.
• Prevention: Cataracts cannot be prevented, but you can lower your risk. Wearing UV-blocking sunglasses and brimmed hats when outside can help as can quitting smoking and keeping your blood sugar in check.
• Cataract surgery: Surgery may help improve more than just your vision. During the procedure, the natural clouded lens is replaced with an artificial lens, which should improve your vision significantly and improve your quality of life.

June is Cataract Awareness Month. Did you know cataracts aren't just something our "mature" patients need to worry about? Cataracts are something we should all be mindful of! Much of the cataract-producing damage caused by the sun's UV rays can be prevented by wearing sunglasses. Studies show that wearing UV-blocking sunglasses when you're young helps reduce the risks of developing cataracts as you age. So go outside and enjoy the sun but remember to protect your eyes by wearing your sunglasses!

🎉We're celebrating 15 YEARS at Persell Eyecare!!🎉We appreciate all our patients’ continued support who have made it possible! Last month we highlighted our staff, so we thought it was time to introduce Dr. Persell.

Dr. Persell graduated from UT Knoxville in 1999 with a degree in Biology and in 2003 he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from SCO (one of the nation's leading optometry schools). He opened Persell Eyecare in 2006 and has been here serving Oakland and the surrounding communities ever since. He and his wife have two active boys (12 & 10 years old) and a rescue beagle. When not at the clinic, you will most likely find him cheering his boys on in their current sports. His hobbies include weightlifting, board games, and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs. If you need a pop-culture or Star Wars Trivia teammate, he's your man!

Audrey has been with us since 2015, but we've known her much longer. She was one of our favorite preschool teachers and cared for our boys. Her caring personality and friendly smile are easy to see. We knew she'd make a perfect fit for our office and we're so thankful she said yes!
