BANDALOOP honors nature, community, and the human spirit through perspective-bending dance. An innovator in vertical performance, BANDALOOP seamlessly weaves dynamic physicality, intricate choreography and climbing technology to turn the dance floor on its side. Founded by Amelia Rudolph and under the artistic direction of Melecio Estrella, BANDALOOP re-imagines dance, activates public spaces, and

Incredible moments captured by Brooke Anderson as we gathered with our community to celebrate the grand opening of our new artistic & administrative HQ: BANDALOOP Studios in West Oakland CA!

Hey that's us! 🥰
In BANDALOOP spaces, we actualize safety in three dimensions:
Care of Self
Care of Others
Care of the Space and Community
We realize that true safety is not a solid reality - it is situational, relative and dynamic - a living system - and in many spaces in the world people are NOT SAFE.
As a company that aims to reimagine what is possible and actualize a Culture of Safety, we stand in solidarity with movements towards liberation and the CALL TO A CEASEFIRE

Life has been incredibly full at BANDALOOP. Here at home in West Oakland, we're entering the last phase of construction for the newly expanded BANDALOOP Studios opening this November. Very soon we will be able to reveal images as we begin to invite our community for sneak peak. We also recently held an audition for the new BANDALOOP Training Group cohort, and were amazed to receive over 50 applications - the most we've ever had in our history. This is a sign of great things to come with the new Studios: expanded education and training programs, and 8,000 sq ft of dance floors & walls! (YES, we are only space fully rigged for vertical dance in the Bay Area!)
Meanwhile the company has been creating and rehearsing for the upcoming tour. Over the next month, we will be traveling to locations that truly express our passion for activating vertical spaces large and small. From a new cultural center in Port Angeles overlooking the Salish Sea, to a world class art gallery in Healdsburg, Sonoma, to Sir Christopher Wren's 300 year-old Saint Paul's Cathedral in London, our global quest for awe and joy continues!

"Bandaloop have done their thing in some pretty spectacular places, but never a historic building comparable to this one. It is pretty damn rare that you can get permission to do a dance on St Paul’s, and the odds are you’ll never see anything like it again." -- Time Out London
The event is free and unticketed. All you have to do is turn up…and look up.
Massive thanks to Greenwich+Docklands International Festival.

For BANDALOOP, winter is a time to reflect on another very full year and celebrate our team and community (you!) that makes it all happen. We are incubating new work, planning an exciting international presence in 2023, and readying our Bay Area dance walls to support more artists and learners. But before all that, it is time to winterize all the hustle and bustle, gather to share food and friendship, and cultivate readiness, together, for what is to come...

***A Message from Rose Huey, Our Director of Education***
BANDALOOP is more than just a vertical dance company. We are educators, creators, storytellers and community builders. We ignite imagination and bend the perspective of what is possible. We bring awe inspiring public art performances to audiences across the globe but always return to our roots in Oakland. We bring that energy home to local arts partnerships, students and programs for young people.
I know about the transformative nature of these programs because not only am I a BANDALOOP dancer and Director of Education…I’m also an alum. My family enrolled me in dance and martial arts classes at Destiny Arts Center when I was a young child and through Destiny's partnership with BANDALOOP, I was introduced to vertical dance. I will never forget the first time I saw a group of BANDALOOP performers enter over a roof edge and transform a grey wall in West Oakland into a magnificent dance floor. I was captivated.
I am incredibly grateful to those teachers who helped awaken in me a passion that would build a deep well of joy and strength I could draw from for years to come. My hope is that many more young people can be given an opportunity like I was. BANDALOOP programs can be transformative, confidence building, and inspiring for all types of students, even those who don’t aspire to be dancers. It invites anyone to discover how strong they are in mind, body and spirit while deepening skills in collaboration and communication.
